Here are more facts and theories.
Tomato Adventure* The game's name, setting and characters are too odd for people outside of Japan to get used to.
(Fact?)* There was a rumor saying that Nintendo was planning to release it outside of Japan, but it never did sell well enough, so AlphaDream used some gameplay ideas from it to create some Hamtaro games and the Mario & Luigi series.
(Fact)Shin Onigashima* Despite being successful, the game was ignored by Nintendo divisions outside of Japan due to being based on two Japanese fairytales, which most children outside of Japan aren't familiar with.
(Fact)* The game has too much Japanese culture.
(Fact)* The game was packed with a bunch of text, making it a difficult game to translate. Also, most gamers wouldn't enjoy reading too much text more than playing.
(Fact)* The game was released in two Famicom Disks, which probably won't fit in an NES cartridge.
(Theory)Yuyuki* See Shin Onigashima.
Famicom Bunko: Hajimari no Mori* Has Japanese culture.
(Fact)* Another text adventure game with way too much text for translators to translate.
(Fact)* Released very late near the end of both life cycles of the SNES and the N64.
(Fact)Marvelous: Another Treasure Island* Released around the beginning of the Nintendo 64 era.
(Fact)* Has too much text to translate.
(Fact)Yakuman series* This is Nintendo's series of video games based on Mah-jong, a Japanese board game popular in Japan, but not well known nor played by many people outside of Japan.
(Fact)Computer Othello and other Nintendo stuff prior to it.* Nintendo was still Japan-only back when they were creating cards and toys and later began creating video games. Back when the game was made, Nintendo wasn't well known to people outside of Japan and never had a single division of their own outside of Japan for localizing.
(Fact)* Their cards are too Japanese, and most people outside of Japan prefer casino cards.
(Fact)* Othello (a.k.a. Reversi) was, and still is a pretty underrated board game. Not as popular as Checkers, Chess, Chinese Checkers nor other board games.
(Theory)Space Fever* Same as Computer Othello, plus it is Nintendo's ripoff of Taito's Space Invaders, despite Nintendo's having more modes than Taito's. Most other video game localizers like Bally Midway (now Midway Games) and Atari wouldn't of like it.
(Fact)Space Launcher* It never was released in North America due to not catching much attention there and due to Nintendo not having their own division there, but Far East Video Inc. distributed and released it in Europe.
(Fact)* It didn't become as successful as Frogger, a similar game that was released two years later.
(Fact)Sky Skipper* Nintendo of America was having a hard time with their business when Radar Scope failed more than Space Firebird succeeding. They didn't want to spend more money on a game that isn't as revolutionary and fun as Donkey Kong. But that didn't stop Parker Bros. from porting a Japan-only arcade game to the Atari 2600, probably because they heard about it and decided to take care of it after Nintendo decided not to.
(Theory)Heli Fire* They weren't released in Europe, because Nintendo never had a division there back when the game was made.
(Fact)* When Heli Fire didn't become successful or fun enough, localizers of Europe never wanted to bring it to Europe.
(Theory)Karkurenbo Battle Monster Tactics* It was released a little late during the Game Boy Color's life cycle.
(Fact)* It didn't sell well enough in Japan.
(Theory)Pokémon Card GB2: Team Great Rocket is Here!* The predecessor of this game never succeeded well enough.
(Theory)* The end of the Game Boy Color's life cycle and the beginning of the Game Boy Advance's life cycle were near.(Fact)
Devil World* It was never released in North America due to that region being afraid to see Satanism, Christianity and other religious beliefs in video games.
(Fact)Famicom Wars series before Advance Wars* Strategy games and RPGs weren't popular outside of Japan back when this series was running.
(Theory)* The series contained too much text to translate.
(Fact)I'll come up with more later.
Parrothead. Mother series is American to the max. CONTRADICTION!
TAKE THAT!
Well, what I should of said was that StarTropics series contain some American-style cartoon art, instead of Japanese-style art. If the StarTropics series was released in Japan, Mike would of looked like
this and
this.
Let's compare the English version of A Boy and his Blob to the Japanese version of it:
