Question is: Besides being random, how do you usually play the game? Like, do you give a specific screnario when playing, or do you give constraints to them?
My question is a general one, as the above question simply asks about you normal Smash playing habit. Anyway, here is a few scenarios I have:
- Custom battles:
Give battles a scenario and play with them. For example:
Mario's Enemies Mario has made many enemies in the past... and they're all coming back together!
Play as Mario, and battle level 9 DK, Wario ad bowser.
Name thief Those people accuse you for stealing their names! Strike back!
Lucario vs Mario, Wario and Lucas in a team.
Name thief 2 That's what you get for stealing Mario's name!
Mario vs Wario, Marth and Lucario in a team.
Before fighting Nightmare Nightmare: Seems like that Dedede is trying to spoil my plan... go! My loyal servant!
Pick anyone and fight Kirby, Meta knight and Dedede in a team.
Constrained battles:
Give your (normally random) battles some constraints. Here goes my idea:
Kirby battle: Have a fight of Kirby vs Meta Kight vs King Dedede - in the game, they're originally three separate powers. I usually pick Dedede in such fight. Confine items to Food, Maximum Tommato, Warp Star, ragoon, Star Rod and Superspicy Curry. Fight in a Kirby stage or a custom stage - I usually play this on a flat stage with nothing but a 18*1 plane on it.
(Once, however, I managed to turn Assist on and got a Knuckle Joe. I was Dedede and Knuckle Joe, literally Kirby's helper, really hurts... Rising Break = Instant KO)
An idea that's not mine: Ultimate Falcon Match Just search these three words in YouTube. It seems that this can only be done smoothly in Melee.
Non-battle scenarios:
Play the game without having battles.
Donkey Kong Play on 75m. Have Mario. Only walk and have short jumps. Never fall from an altitude. Try to reach the goal without taking ANY damage - play this on Stamina mode with 1 HP.
Survival Play on a custom stage with 4 small freefalling blocks. Try to survive before sinking in the bottomless pit. Given his high vertical movement ability, you automatically win when you pick King Dedede.
.....Those are my ideas so far. I tend to do the Kirby battle a lot.
And I'll actually like the game more if all characters are replaced with Kirby helpers.

So if Lucas plus mario equals Lucario and Lucas plus Wario equals Lucario, does Mario equal Wario? Paradox! another paradox, lucas plus mario equals lucario but Mario plus Lucas equals Riolu, same with Wario plus lucas. Lucario equals Riolu? Mario plus Luigi and Wario plus Luigi also equal Riolu, but Luigi plus Mario equals luiario. Paradox!
Back on topic.
I play a 2 minute ko fest with me as sonic and a random level nine CPU and anything else after that like Link vs Ganon for an idle zelda or Link vs dark link or Stamina flower match.

My friends and I have come up with a bunch of ways to play vs. mode.
The most common way is to put five stock, no items, and stage select on turns. Then we play four rounds as our four best characters. Then we move into themes. When it is your turn to pick the stage, you pick a theme. The theme dictates the characters you can play as, the stage played on, and which items are on and off. The theme could be "Pokémon" or "Created in the 80s" or "Has two vowels".
The other method is the Random Championship. Two players, four stock, no items, auto random stage select. Both players pick random. The loser hands the controller over to a new player. The new player picks random and the winner from the last match picks the character random first selected. The goal is to get a winning streak as long as possible. It's a great way to train as a new character.

I play against 3 CPU's in a battle royale, with 5 stock. Occasionally, I do a 'chick fight' scenario with me as Peach, and the CPU's as Zelda, Samus and...er...Diddy Kong (as Jigglypuff's AI sucks as usual). This game really needed more female characters, IMHO... Not forgetting the classic 'pokemon battle' scenario (Me as Jiggly, vs Pikachu, Pkmn Trainer and Lucario). I also like beating the crap out of Olimar, ROB and Wario...for various reasons....

I just randomise everything - character, stage, opponents... I know who I'm good with, but why would I just want to keep using that character? Wouldn't that become boring? So I mix it up a bit. With Melee, I'd do things like turn off all items except Mario items, select 4 Mario characters and play on a Mario stage - stuff like that. I guess that's possible again with more series now thanks to the increase of characters - but I haven't been bored enough to do it in recent years

My preferred way of playing is 4min time with most of the stages (namely Brawl stages), but my friends usually play 5 stock.
I typically randomize my character, but since I'm trying to get good with one first, I've been playing Wario.

AK (my nickname for you) try sonic, if you get really good with him, I salute you and say "Show ya Moves!".
I also do Destined battles like in Soul caliber.
And for all of you who posted being random, the first thing in the first post says "Beside being random"

When playing by myself, I usually play in 1 vs. 1, no items, in Final Destination, opponent is at level 5-9, depending on my skills with a selected character... I do it to get better with Lucario, Yoshi, Pokemon Trainer, or whoever I feel like maining as.
When playing with my boyfriend, we always play in 2 vs. 2 team battle (us against the computers), with all the items turned on high, and in any other stages for fun.

Wait, you're gay? Did we already know about this? ...If so, then that means all but one of the forums I post on has at least one gay member. Just a small observation I made. Nothing important.

I'm pretty sure Arcadenik stated his preference before.
Anyway, whenever I play it's just 5 stock with friends. That's it. It's all about the KOs though, after playing for a good hour we see who has the most stars and we can declare today's winner.

I always play timed matches unless I'm using a Wii I don't own or it's a Wi-Fi battle. I've said why before; I love to record funny moments in Replays and watch them countless times afterwards.
And now that we have talked a lot about background music, I miss (and want in SSB4) more of those "hurry up" tunes in stages, just like in Mushroom Kingdom I and Mushroom Kingdom II. Of course, you can only hear them in timed matches!

I'm pretty sure TEi's gay too. Plus the sexual tension between yourself and parrothead is surely going to boil over into a pot of hot steamy man sex very soon. But who cares?

Why is everyone liking 5-stock (or 4-stock for some) matches? I prefer... 1-stock matches! Being KO'ed once means losing the entire match! And this also means for the same time you can make up more situations! I remembered back in Melee I used to play with my cousins (who now left my home and headed back to theirs; and their brother was just bornt yesterday - and I saw hi before the other brothers did! How cold of them...) - we used to have 4P matches with the CPs random and us picking our favs - I'd choose whatI'm naed from, and my cousins usually pick Roy or Mewtwo (who now like Luario in Brawl). The way we play is that we all try to remove the CP before competing ourselves. So if Lucas plus mario equals Lucario and Lucas plus Wario equals Lucario, does Mario equal Wario? Paradox! another paradox, lucas plus mario equals lucario but Mario plus Lucas equals Riolu, same with Wario plus lucas. Lucario equals Riolu? Mario plus Luigi and Wario plus Luigi also equal Riolu, but Luigi plus Mario equals luiario. Paradox! LOL! Link vs Ganon for an idle zelda Unless you're Ganondorf, this is already in the event match mode! AK (my nickname for you) try sonic, if you get really good with him, I salute you and say "Show ya Moves!". Falcon PAWNch! And for all of you who posted being random, the first thing in the first post says "Beside being random" I've been reading and seeing their post ignoring my first line, and I starting to think how interesting is the behaviour of the forum posters. And yes, this doesn not happen in NinDB alone. What a normal way to play. Of course, you can only hear them in timed matches! I think Time matches are too out of the window or me. I prefer Stock - and don't like how all SSB's and Kirby Air Ride do not save settings. I want to see the next Smash Bros playing "hurry" tunes when there's 2 players with on stock each left. That, and I want the ity Trial music to be in - it does have a hurry music, right?
