So recently my folks upgraded to a wide, flat TV, completely disconnecting my poor Wii in the process. But now, while I could put the Wii flat, it simply has no place to put the sensor bar on top of the TV like it used to, and I'm afraid of the new aspect ratio problems. New Wii games would slip into the new resolution like Samus Aran's Zero Suit (before you ask, btw, no, I don't have HDMI cables) but I'm confused on how the older, Virtual Console games would respond. I don't want Super Mario 64 to be obscenely S T R E T C H E D, and I was wondering how to tackle this whole issue. Would I need to change the aspect ratio between Wii games and VC games? Where do I put the sensor bar? Help!

You should find instructions for the sensor bar in the Wii instructions booklet. When playing VC games, you must manually change the TV's ratio to 4:3. Or the games will be stretched. Don't forget to set your Wii to 16:9 too. Also, get component cables.

I have a widescreen TV as well. My TV is able to alter the viewing...whatever...to better suit what I'm watching. It says "screen mode" on my remote.
You can also go to Wii settings and change your screen size in there.
As for the sensor bar? ...tape it to the wall.

You could put the sensor bar under the TV and change the settings to allow that, or balance it on top like I do.

Yeah, you can change the options on the Wii menu to have the sensor bar under the TV. Although I tried doing that, and trying to navigate to that menu isn't fun

I once had the sensor bar fall off, and my brother was too lazy to let me fix it, so he just moved the Wii Mote around in random directions until he got the cursor to hover over Brawl.

Wii in widescreen? Thats what I do.
There are a few things to keep in mind:
- Have yout TV remote in hand because games unsupporting 16:9 will be stretched instead of automatically centered. When you switch games, be prepared to switch between 4:3 centered and stretch. No panorama modes please, as that will shift things towards the centre.
- I never tried VC, but Brawl's trials tell me that if you play games in 16:9, the sceen will not strtech but try to fit in the 16:9 screen. Of course, for Nintendo 64 games one pixel will no longer be accurately be translated to 4 pixels.
- HDMI cables simply serve no purposes. D-subminiature and Component are the two best options of display at 640*480, 60Hz progressive.
