Today (Wednesday, Novermber 19) is the second anniversary of the 3PS, which also happens to mark the second anniversary of the Wii. (Seems like the Wii's been around longer than that, doesn't it?) It's been a fun two years. Once again, I want to thank Fry for putting my silly writing on his site. And also, thanks to the forum members for tolerating it.
But now, I'm sorry to announce that I'm stepping away from the 3PS, and as of today, the feature is on indefinite hiatus.
After two years of writing the 3rd Party Showcase, and another eight months previous to that writing the "Third Party 'Cube Game of the Week," I'm a little worn out. I've decided to take a break and work on other projects for a while. Therefore, the 3PS will not be a part of the NinDB's reboot.
I also feel that the feature has gone about as far as it can go. I don't think it's as relevant anymore, especially with Nintendo's current situation. And I think you guys get the basic point of it. In general, I feel that the 3PS simply doesn't have the weight that it once did.
I was going to write out a long, preachy rant here, but I've done it before, and if you haven't gotten the point by now, it's hopeless.
However, I'll just say that one of the reasons I began writing these things in the first place was to encourage more discussion of third-party games. To that end, I hope you guys will help keep the third party forum alive. As long as the discussion is able to sustain itself, then the 3PS has done its job.
Once again, thank you for your support. For now, this is the 3rd Party Showcase signing off.

I'm sorry to hear that you are ceasing the articles, but I can also understand. They will be missed. However, I do hope that you will continue to post ABOUT third party games, because I still will.

^ Don't worry, I'm not leaving the forum. I'll still be posting and discussing third-party games, just not in 3PS format. Anyway, I hope you and Teev aren't too disappointed. I think you guys (and Fry) were the closest thing I had to fans.

Hmm? I was a groupie Well, you actually replied to most of them. *checks Teev's post count* Then again, you reply to just about everything, so I guess I shouldn't be too flattered.

You're right. Teev only joined last year and his post count is nearly triple some of ours.

As you know, I've been working on restoring 3PS to the NinDB Features section. And this might be 15 years too late, but I don't think I ever adequately thanked you for the work you put into this project. Thank you, John.
NinDB has always had a clear mandate to first-party titles, but I feel as though 3PS encouraged myself and others to really expand our horizons. Many of the games in your articles ended up becoming games in my own collection. Some I played at the time, while others I only beat a couple of years ago (Elebits, Okami, No More Heroes...) Its legacy lives on!
When I asked if you were happy for me to reinstate them, you said they're probably not up to your current standards, but if I felt they still had value then to go ahead.
After reading them all, they're still entertaining, and I think their value is largely historical. I'm certainly guilty of looking back at the Wii and DS era as a bunch of gimmicky minigame collections. But I think 3PS really shows that wasn't always the case. There were solid gaming experiences to be had.
It was worthwhile then, and it's worthwhile now. And I'm honoured and thankful to be reinstating all 51 articles. I'm just sorry it's taken so long.

Thanks, Fry. It's weird for me to look back at them, because I don't remember writing most of them. (I wrote about Guitar Hero??) So, it feels like someone else wrote them, and I can read them from a completely different perspective. Of course, I can say that about any of my really old forum posts here. It's a trip for me to dig through the archives, find things I don't remember, and think, "Did *I* say that?"

I've also been reinstating the Nintendo All-Stars content and having a similar reaction. Although my first reaction to my own old work is almost always "This is not well-researched" and/or "This is waaaay too long!" Hopefully I can get all these changes published in the next week or so.
