Today, November 21st 2008, marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the greatest game ever. Happy birthday Ocarina of Time!
Please feel free to use this thread to share fond memories of this iconic game.
For me, it evokes so many emotions; the memory of fear as the sun sets for the first time in Hyrule field, the wolf howl, and suddenly skeletons were everywhere! It was my first real computer game jump-out-of-skin moment! Then there's the wonders of Lake Hylia, the joys of fishing for the first time, and eventually finding out that all the rivers were connected to it! The iconic jump over the gorge on Epona, to get to Gerudo desert was a great WOW moment! Carrying princess Ruto around on your head and flinging her was just so funny! But most of all, it's THAT music that'll stick with me forever, the iconic main theme tune....

Happy birthday Ocarina!
But I can't share fond memories because I'm playing it right now. Fond memories of beating Forest Temple 2 minutes ago ^_^

10 years? Damn.
I remember when I first got this game...
7 bucks on Ebay, about 5 years ago. I could never afford N64 games when this one came out, so I had to wait awhile...

Funny, I just bought OoT for the VC a few days ago for the sake of beating it again.

My 2nd favorite game of all time, that this is. I've got a funny story to share about my recollections of my first hands-on experience with OoT:
Flashback to 1998. My good friend Chris had a few friends over and he just picked the game up. I was amazed, enthralled even about what I was watching. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. When I started the game at his house, I recorded it. I got through the Deku Tree, but not much farther. When I returned home, I asked my mom if we could go and get it, but alas, she was busy working and didn't want to take me. I had the game on reserve as it was, but I just had to witness the game again, so I watched my tape. My mom walked in...and decided to take me down if I got it quickly. So I did. What's best about this story is when I got it, I became addicted to the stellar gameplay and level design. So addicted, I beat the game in about 20 hours in 4 days. 5 minutes before Chris beat it, who had it a week before I did! I called him to tell him I just beat it, and he was fighting Ganon. (he was quite upset at me, btw...it's all good now, though ^^). But that's how much I loved this game, and it's one of the few games I played after beating it more than I played trying to beat it.

Ocarina of Time was awesome, but despite what people thing, it HAS been superceded by its sequels. It was the first to do it, and has a place in history because of that, but it is no longer the "best game ever" that everybody claims.
Annoyingly, it's still better than most games released in the intervening 10 years though. You'd think people would watch and learn... but nooooo!

I agree that Twilight Princess feels better (as well as looks better, that goes without saying), and it's my 2nd favorite 3D Zelda, but OoT was revolutionary to me. It was just above and beyond anything I had played at the time, and it still is a great game, so I'm happy with my placement of it on my list. Then again, I don't think it's the best game ever, either, so I suppose my argument is a bit moot. XD
As for Wind Waker, I like the game a lot, but the sailing aspect gets very old, so I can't consider it above TP or OoT (that don't have a major design flaw of that degree to me).

All that comes to mind at the moment are horrible nightmares of Re-deads humping me.
*shudders*
But yeah, fun game.

I liked Ocarina of Time was possibly the best Zelda title ever in my opinion. Better than Twilight Princess. It's story seemed so very important, the dungeons were very original and abundant, the music was some of the best. There are Zelda games beat it in various different things, like one Zelda game will beat it in presentation, one will beat it in side-quests etc. None will ever be as well rounded as Ocarina of Time.
I must admit though, Majora's Mask was my favorite despite the lack of dungeons.

I agree that Twilight Princess feels better (as well as looks better, that goes without saying), and it's my 2nd favorite 3D Zelda, but OoT was revolutionary to me. Don't get me wrong - nothing can take away the revolutionary aspect of the game. That is something it will always have that the others do not. It reinvented the action-adventure genre, as well as 3D action games as a whole. It invented the Z-Lock! That alone is worthy of greatness! I am just of the opinion that the formula it laid down has been improved upon a number of times. They have Ocarina to thank, and it means we keep getting games better than a perfect game

Ah yes... Ocarina of time... epic music... great grafix for it's time... insane rumors... epic story... reinvention of action games, and reinvention of the story. This was a great game.

Looks like Wikipedia knew about this and featured it as the main article yesterday. I remember first renting this back on the N64 but only got up to Dodongo's caven. Then I played it again with GCN release because of it being released with WindWaker. (I played through it before WindWaker as well and then again with Master Quest). I remember my only frustations with the game were the ones caused by myself and to go online see how to solve them after beilieving it was the game's fault. (examples include, not thinking it was possible to dive down and reach Ruto's message in a bottle, going through the Shadow Temple without getting the Lens of Truth first (That really confused me, that part, needing to use the blue flames on Zora Domain) In the end it was a very, very good game with good story, gameplay and humor. (One of my favourite moments was getting the fire arrows after beating the Water Temple after solving the puzzle of how to get them and also the Goron leader's son being named after you in the future). Also did anyone ever get all 100 Skullata's?EDIT: Here's a OoT secret moment not many of you would have seen, "the dying soldier." (Starts at 2:20).

Also did anyone ever get all 100 Skullata's?I just did it this year after finishing Master Quest. Still not worth it! But I found out that I'm a better gamer than before. Maybe I was not used to explore 3-D environments yet combined with the logic and physics of Nintendo games. I played Ocarina of Time for the first time on December 25th, 1998. My best Zelda experiencies were in this game and in Link's Awakening, and I hope the next Zelda happens to be as outstanding as Super Mario Galaxy.

You know, I don't think I ever did get all the Skulltulas. It would be the last thing I need to do. I also never played all the way through Master Quest. Hmm... I'd better load those games up again
