Hey Guys, I saw that you were pretty good at figuring out old Nintendo games. I am trying to figure one out for me and my brother. It was either NES or an SNES game, but the graphics weren't that great. It was top down and the only part we can remember is that there were fairies (or something like them) that you could name and then summon them later on. We were visiting a friend and he named a few after us. Thanks for any help you can provide!
Well, while we have a topic named thusly, I've been racking my mind over a puzzle myself for the past...forever, really. When I was a wee lad, before my parents approved of me owning any video game device larger than the original GameBoy, I was fascinated whenever I went to my cousins' houses to play their NES games. One set of cousins had this game that...if I remember right, it was an isometric game that was a lot like the original Zelda, with single-screen areas that scrolled when you reached the edges. You played as some kind of tank thing, and you built up on yourself, gaining more parts and more powerful weapons as you went along. I have no idea what the name of this game is and I'd like to know just for shits and giggles.
I also distinctly remember an upgrade that looked like George Washington's head, but, uh, don't trust me on that one >_>

For kingkirby64, might you be thinking of Brain Lord on the SNES? It's top-down, and you can summon fairies.
TEi, the fist thing I thought of from your description was Vindicators, but it doesn't scroll like Zelda, and as far as I know, it doesn't have George Washington. When you say it's isometric, do you mean like Solstice?
nocturnal YL: Not doing an update right now; jury's still out for whether Three Hopes should replace the original FE Warriors and whether there'd be other changes.

Nester the Lark: My list could use some tweaking, too, but since it was entirely first-party games, I was considering making an entirely separate list of favorite third-party games.

nocturnal YL: Finished playing Atelier Ryza 2. The main story, anyway. Main takeaways: (1) BRSL really took a lot from it, from the summer theme to the 3+1 battle formation and certain plot points; (2) it's still not my kind of game, and it's too reliant on lore;

nocturnal YL: (3) item synthesis, gems (used for the rebuild, copy and essence systems) and shop upgrades all eat up lots of raw materials, which is quite annoying; (4) it's just as I expected: much better than Ryza 1, but still not great by Atelier standard.

nocturnal YL: There are a lot of game genres and elements that I said I wouldn't like, and my game library would say otherwise. At various points I thought I wouldn't like music games, town management, time travel story or even SRPGs. My top favs have all of these.

nocturnal YL: I was thinking about doing some kind of quiz game where we post questions asking each other how well do we know each other as gamers. After all, the regulars (especially Nester and I) have posted so much stuff here. I wonder if anyone is interested?

Nester the Lark: ^ Sounds interesting, but of course, I wouldn't expect there to be a lot of participation.

Shrikeswind: With Nester on that. Could be interesting, though participation would likely be low. Still, could be neat, and for people who aren't as regular, could be a good way to acquaint or reacquaint members.

nocturnal YL: I'll think about what to do with the quiz. I think I'll post mine in a few days. In the meanwhile, feel free to post yours (with your own rules) ahead of me if you feel like it.

Nester the Lark: So, if I understand, we think up trivia about ourselves as gamers that we can quiz other people on?
Aug 3, 2022 9:56:53 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Yeah, that's the general idea. I'm not decided on what type of questions / topics I'll have, though. Something like "Which level, outside of Secret Seclusion, have I not finished in DKC Tropical Freeze?" might be unfair since I never mentioned this before.

nocturnal YL: Something that people may know, but not stuff that we've directly mentioned would be great. Like "Which Metroid games have I beaten?" for me. Questions without searchable answers would be a good way to introduce new trivia, though.

Nester the Lark: I was thinking of things that I've mentioned on the forum but weren't necessarily well known. I suppose things I haven't explicitly mentioned might be more fun to try to guess.
