Teev - European publishers tend to get lumped with the Western group for some reason. Edit - Wow, way beaten to the punch there. lol SAMaine - You have a decent point, but the exclusives you list are all first-party releases for the 360 or Wii. I'm sure there's some third party exclusives for both that have done quite well (even for the Wii, as odd as it sounds). Games like Oblivion and Carnival Games did pretty well on their respective platforms, and Sony has had most of their first-party games like LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2 bomb. By the way, Sony also is cutting staff. There are also companies like Activision Blizzard that make games for all platforms and benefit immensely from the tastes of the Xbox 360 audience (with Call of Duty), the Wii & DS audience (with Guitar Hero), and the PC audience (with World of Warcraft). All of the Japanese third-parties are being conservative and profiting right now with sole exception to Sega, so unless there are massive bombs, only Sega would supposably need a loan.

I just heard about the (hopefully not true) news about Factor 5 and I'm surprised to see them close. I find that there is an interesting connections between both FR and F5. - Their last released games were both PS3 exclusive (Haze and Lair, sadly Haze was originally going to be released on 360 and PC as well but became a PS3 exclusive).
- Both games got very negative repection both games getting less than 58% from Game Rankings and Metacritic. (Haze was not very good and Lair only reilied on SIXAXIS controls which didn't work properly and a patch was created to allow people to use the buttons.
- I don't know the slaes figures but since they aren't mentioned on wikipedia, I would assume they sold less than a million.
This console generation is really proving than exclusives do not work anymore, isn't it? No, this just tells you that PS3 exclusives do not sell unless they are Metal Gear Solid. Xbox 360 exclusives like Gears of War & Halo, and Wii exclusives like Mario and Zelda sell really well. Best selling game for the PS3 this Christmas? Call of Duty: World at War. Logically, they shouldn't as PS3 is the worst selling system of this generation. Hello? LittleBigPlanet? Resistance 2? The PS3 got the best exclusives this year - IGN scored more PS3 games over 7.5 than other systems. The average PS3 game score was higher than either system, and the Wii's was the lowest. Of course Mario and Zelda sell well - they're like MGS - famous and huge franchises. What didn't sell well were games like Zack and Wiki, for some odd reason. Haze sold badly? Really? Well, I bought it... although it was very disappointing, it was seen as this great PS3 exclusive that would save the console for so long that I thought that a substantial amount people, like me, would buy it without looking at the reviews first.

Yes, the PS3 has some good exclusives this but it seems they just aren't getting the sales that Sony was hoping for. The LBP delay invloving the islamic song lyrics ended up pushing it into the horrible end of year release schdule (late Oct - Nov and pre Christmas December) where 50% of the game released this year come out has ended up making the game not even appear in the top 10 charts. The TV ads could be better, I mean just have in tiny words at the bottom of the screen "this was all created in game" does give anyone an idea what the game is about. A time lapse "before-after" video would have done a whole lot better. While R2 seems to have tons of cool features, most people say the game sucks. I'm heard a joke going around about the PS3 launch title sequels (R2, Motorstorm 2) and the reason why no one is buying them is that, their launch prequels were the only good games to buy when the PS3 launched meaning that not may want to buy the sequals. About Z&W, it's a new unfamilar IP making it harder to sell. I'm surprised a sticker with all the postive praise for the game isn't stuck to cover to help sell it. Also in terms of the Wii having the worst ratings isn't that because of all the shovelware released for it?

Islamic song lyrics? What? That... that doesn't make any sense.
Most of the stores nearby offer LittleBigPlanet with a PS3 purchase, so I guess that's pretty good advertising.
IGN - 9.5 Metacritic - 87/100 (out of 71 reviews) Gamerankings - 88% (out of 54 reviews) Gamespy - 4.5/5 I-Up - B+
That seems pretty good to me.
From what I've heard, Resistance 2 is getting decent sales. I know a friend who bought it with his PS3, and I'm thinking of getting it as well - the original was great.
True, although if Haze and Lair did indeed sell badly, perhaps this would indicate that PS3-owners tend to pay more attention to reviews than Wii-owners? I'm not talking about the hardcore Wii owners here like you and I, I'm talking about people who play games but would never discuss them on message boards.
Yes, that is why. That shovelware is still exclusive oftentimes, so that gives the Wii the worst exclusives, unfortunately. Plus, the good third party games of this year (No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki, De Blob) weren't exactly killer apps - essentially it's Nintendo giving the AAA titles on the system this year, which is a bit disappointing.

It happenedActually, most of the actual shovelware are ports of PS2 games... Now the various minigame compilations might not be lighting up the review charts, but they DO sell on the Wii if they are good fun. Nearly any local multiplayer game does. And some of them got high marks for their genre.

There are still lots of exclusives, as well as many games that aren't exclusive to the Wii but are exclusive to Nintendo systems. Yes, of course, some of the mini-game compilations are good! But the point still remains - most of them are bad or average which bumps down the collective Wii-exclusive score.

I really don't see what's wrong with having "two phrases from the Quran" in the game. There didn't even seem to be any Muslims that complained about it, just Sony being overly-PC idiots assuming that we darkies will get up in arms about something like that. Honestly, there are many Muslims that get offended by minor things, but there's no way that that could be one of them.

Here is an MTV Multiplayer interview with Rainbow Studios' Jordan Itkowitz where he mentions that if Deadly Creatures doesn't sell well, then you can expect to see them make more mini-game compilations in the future: MTV Multiplayer: How did you persuade THQ to greenlight this idea?
Itkowitz: It was pretty easy, actually, because of the fact that we pitched it on the Wii — that was the magic word. [THQ] was really interested in doing something for the Wii because they didn’t have a whole lot on the roster for that. They were really supportive of the concept the whole time. I mean, it is kind of an experiment though, because everybody — from fans to the press to gamers — have been saying they want more core stuff on the Wii, and they’re tired of the mini-game compilations. So the response to [the game] so far has been really good. I hope people vote with their dollars in February so we can make some more. Otherwise, it’s back to mini-games. [Emphasis added] Here's one way to look at it: if you don't buy Deadly Creatures (assuming it's at least a decent game), then you're indirectly supporting mini-game comps. It sounds like Mushroom Men is not doing well, but then it hasn't gotten the best reviews, either.

I hope that Deadly Creatures is good. Of course, there's the chance that it'll be terrible. Lucky for us the games that "saved" the Wii this year (Zack and Wiki, De Blob, No More Heroes) weren't terrible like the PS3's offerings (Lair, Haze, Heavenly Sword...). It didn't portray it badly, though, it just mentioned it. Me: "Hey, have you heard of Islam?" Other guy: "Yeah, it's a religion that exists!" Muslim: "OMG OFFENDEDDDDD" That kind of scenario only plays out in the minds of scared idiots. I'm not even gonna dignify that post with a response. Not counting this one. Why not? What was wrong with what I said?

I wasn't trying to start a useless fight.
All I was saying was that there's nothing offensive about "mentioning the Quran". In fact, one would think that Muslims would want people to mention the Quran to spread the word.

On a sidenote, we can say good-bye to the 20 year old EGM, which officially shuttered up last week. Their website, 1up, has been bought by Hearst Corp. to be merged with their UGO network, and a majority of the staff have already moved on to newer frontiers.
I've also read at Kotaku that Microsoft is planning some layoffs.
