We just got the new kiosk demo disk at work today and one of the playable games is Donkey Konga... We even got "Kongas" installed and everything. ;D Anyway, I got a good look at the track list. The cameo songs I saw were: "Super Mario Theme" "The Legend of Zelda Theme" "Pokemon Theme" "Kirby: Right Back At Ya!" "DK Rap" Unfortunently, none of those were playable.

I understand that Japan, the US and Europe will all have different songs available, including some of the cameo songs. I know that Europe will also have the Rainbow Ride song from Super Mario 64, as well as SOME of the ones you mention. I don't think we're getting the Kirby or Pokemon theme songs though. I'll stick up a track listing eventually

Because different countries have different musical tastes.
Music is one of the areas where Europe tends to beat the US. Most big bands do well over here before they take off anywhere else... even American bands.

the japanese "cameo" songs are dk rap mario theme and the japanese kirby cartoon theme.
depends how you define cameo i spose... i dunno if dk rap really counts as its in another dk game. the original mario theme has been in pretty much every mario game. well, some of them anyway

This is why I changed the "cameos" to "cameos & references" on the site.
You have the remember that Donkey Konga is a spinoff from the Donkey Kong series, and so while the DK Rap wouldn't have been considered a cameo had it been the title theme to Konga, or background music, if it is lumped in as part of the game as a reference to DK history then I am obliged to mention it.
Sadly then you get people who think every reference to Super Mario 64 should be referenced in every Mario Party game or something... these people are mad. In these cases, a game writes a new chapter in a series, and spinoffs borrow liberally from it. That is all.
Tricky subject, but one I have given much thought.
