Site Relaunch: Cameo Brigade ASSEMBLE!!

When Nintendo Database relaunches as "nindb" in a short amount of time, it will include (at first) a cut down list of franchises that I will add to over time. Franchises will include information in all games in that series, plus cameos.

The biggest change is the sub-series division, meaning that in-series cameos will finally count for something!

So, with the "launch franchises", I just want to make sure everything is covered, and I could use your help to trawl through any recent cameo posts and mention them.

Say Fry, are you gonna count Mario Party and all the Mario Sports titles as separate too? I can definitely help you with in-series cameos on those, since I know you hate Mario Party with a passion.

Mario Party is gonna stand alone, and each Mario sports series will stand alone as well - so Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Baseball, Mario Basketball, etc. etc.

There will still be some kind of in-series rules. Can't go nuts after all

One other question though... How do you decide what counts as a sub-series within a franchise in order to give it it's own page? I originally didn't think you were gonna divide some of them as much as you did.

Basically, a good example would be:

Top tier The Legend of Zelda
2nd tier Four Swords Adventures
Bottom Tier Tingle's Rosy-Rupeeland and Link's Crossbow Training

There's some cross-over. For example, Donkey Kong Jr. Math... should this be a Donkey Kong game or a Famicom Lesson game?

The Mario Golf and Tennis games seem like the same series. I usually group those together, but for this it's definitely best left separate.

Are the NES Open games really part of the Mario Golf series? I thought they were considered a part of the regular Nintendo Sports line despite having Mario in them.

Also, NES Open Tournament Golf is called "Mario Open Golf" in Japan. And it's a remade compilation of Golf US Course and Golf Japan Course with some new courses thrown in. So technically the Mario Golf series was launched with Golf Japan Course.

I've started adding games to the list above where cameos appear - but only as far as the franchise lists on the website currently has them. This is a problem for Mario/Yoshi/Wario and Donkey Kong/DKC as so far they share a combined list... so I haven't done those yet.

So there's no Wii and very few DS games up there. We can start with the obvious ones and work to the lesser-known ones. Actually, this might be worth expanding into a full list of franchises

So...you just want us to say which games you're missing from the lists, right?

Well from the lists you have so far, here's the omissions I found:

In the LoZ and Metroid lists, you’re missing the 1080 Avalanche high score references.

In the Pokémon, Kirby, and F-Zero lists, you’re missing their songs and sound effects in Donkey Konga and Donkey Konga 2.

You also need Drill Dozer in the Pokémon list.

There’s also the Metroid Prime 3 bumper stickers for the LoZ list.

Also for the LoZ list, there’s the “I AM ERROR” reference in Super Paper Mario, as well as the Rare Candy reference for the Pokémon list.

Of course, there’s also Picross DS with its extra mode puzzles having LoZ and Metroid cameos.

Then there’s the Zero Suit Samus costume in Fatal Frame IV.

There’s also the Zelda/Zebes reference in Custom Robo for those lists.

Metro Island in Days of Ruin for the Metroid list.

Animal Crossing has a reference in Phantom Hourglass.

Wii Music has Zelda, Animal Crossing, and F-Zero songs.

And, of course, there’s the many cameos in WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Brawl, and City Folk, but I doubt you needed to be told that.

Event Match 7- Diddy Kong Panic- is likely a reference to Diddy Kong Racing:
"So many angry little Diddy Kongs. Did they lose a race or something?"

Also, the Mach Bike and the Rally Romper are cameos of Mach Rider and Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally.

Sidesteppers cameod in Phantom Hourglass.

The Red Shell in Galaxy can be considered a Mario Kart cameo, if you're doing cameos that way. It's the first time in the series proper shells have homed in on things.

Also, the reoccurring argument about the Pokeball planet should be considered.

The Mask from Kirby Super Star has been renamed the Phanto Mask, making it a Super Mario Bros. 2 cameo.
