WIthout further ado, allow me to introduce you lot to MTCHW, Music That Could Have Worked. Check out the selections they put out for them. They just mute the music in favor of sound effects and throw in the requested music during each match.

Different music in a stage of a different series at places? Why is that? The thing is, they had to find which stage the music would work best on.

Furthermore, they are actively taking requests for what one like to hear and where.

Have a ball with these.

(I'm pretty sure some of you have tried this kind of thing before yourselves, but even so)

Here are a few more recommendations:

Kokiri Forest (Zelda Ocarina of Time) - Bridge of Eldin
Mad Jack's theme (DK 64) - New Pork City (the laughing in the BGM gets the whole "madman" thing going in Porky, you see And after testing it out, it DOES fit here)
Forest Haven Exterior and interior - Pirate Ship (Get them together one after the other like a medley)

I've read the descriptions of those videos, and I agree with the uploader in most of the cases. He dislikes some (and says it in a polite manner), avoids commenting on others, and praises some that I do like.

I've not submitted any of my ideas I posted here, though, in case Fry uses them soon. But some people at MTCHW have had similar ideas, like the "Lake Trio" song (from Pokémon Diamond & Pearl) at the Spear Pillar.

I've always been a big fan of these Youtube vids. I can't really discern any favorites at the moment, but I did really like One Winged Angel on Final Destination (though it will never really happen ;p)
