Hint 2: It's a platformer and the team behind it would go on to develop a beloved original platform game of their own for the same system, but it came at the very end of it's lifecycle though.

Since Nester seems to be busy, here's another written clue.
Clue 1 - You attack foes in this game by flinging seashells at them. It was released on two different platforms, with color being the primary difference.

The two games are both on Nintendo systems, but rival companies did games for other systems. It's a licensed property based on one of the more popular animated films of the 80's.
