No, it's not Mario. There is a mustachioed ref, but it's not Mario.
King Hippo's boxers are covered in Starmen. I just played the game at GDC today. I'll try to get a frame capture from my video footage later.

Dang, I was about to mention that in the PO Wii thread, but I didn't press the "post message" button. Oh well.
But then again I do have this one.
IGN has mentioned that Doc Louis says his famous quote "join the Nintendo Fun Club today and then he corrects himself and says join Club Nintendo."
Lucky you being at GDC, make sure to play ExciteBots and all the indie games they have there! Some of those may not get released!

Haha, cool. I'm usually cautious about adding cameos from games that haven't been released - but seeing as this will almost definitely be released by the time I get round to finishing the site, I will accept with open arms ;D

I dunno if this is really the place to post this as it's not strictly about Mario in Punch-out. Anyway I believe that Doc Louis says during a match with Bald Bull (dunno if it's TD, the first or both) that Mac could always take on Bald Bull in an arm wrestle if he can't beat him in a boxing match. A reference to Arm Wrestling?
