I heard smoking around the Wii damages it.

Urgent question to those with with Wii problems! Was your Wii using WiiConnect24? I just read this blog article 2 days ago and there seems to be some issue (read blog comments) with WC24 and heating up of the Wii. Personally I never really liked the idea of WiiConnect24, I just don't like how the Wii heats up (yes I know the fan is off).

Was your Wii using WiiConnect24? Erm, yeah. It's been using it since I hooked it up like 5 months ago.

Yes yes. The Wii heating up. That's why I unplug it occasionally. To let it cool down.

Well, overheating could be the trouble, ( I once read a crazy solution to a gamecube problem which was letting it in a fridge for some hours) as my Wii its always plugged, I might try also that. and combo meal, if you can try to change the cables that way you can rule out if thats the issue (if you know someone else with a Wii ask them if they can lend you their cables for an afternoon.

I don't know for GameCube, but freezing a GBA does it absolutely no damage. But since water vapour gan get on the system, I don't think it's a good idea. I won't be lending my cables out if that's me. I've bought my component cable for a good amount of money, and the idea of the whole "unplugging the cable behind the TV" thing gets me. Yes yes. The Wii heating up. That's why I unplug it occasionally. To let it cool down. Yeah. Unplug it. While it is downloading stuff. Doesn't that damage the console's memory? I turn WiiConnect24 off. Not that I need it anyway. I directly plug the network cable to my computer and re-plug it to a router only when needed. Routers are no good when I want to use my computer as a server.

Well, turning off WiiConnect24 and unplugging my Wii for long periods of time hasn't really done anything to fix my Wii's picture. I'll probably buy some component cables and see if it helps. (are the $15 Nyko cables any different from the $30 official cables?)
I'll get those pictures I promised up by tomorrow.

(are the $15 Nyko cables any different from the $30 official cables?) I use the official cables. But the real difference is really just a Nintendo logo that you probably won't notice. Since my cables aren't as expensive, I opted for the official ones.
