It seems unable to read any disks, I just had such bad luck with Nintendo DVD based systems (I had two gamecubes dying on me, but to be fair the first died because my dad made it fall, and I am sure the one the store gave me because the warranty was a refurbished one) Still, any suggestions on how to fix this, I already sent a mail to Nintendo about the problem, and ordered a lens cleaning kit from playasia.

I've had the same problem, my Wii won't read any discs, like Brawl or Mario Kart Wii, and I got it cleaned, but still no progress, it'll just get an error on the Disc Channel.
In the end, cleaning the lens will do only so much, if dirty, but the problem seems to be the DVD reader.

I suggest sending it in, The Wii seems to be having alot of problems, but you must also make sure you weren't messing around with it.

I wasn't doing anything special with it , I just moved it from one tv to another so I could download the latest update(Something I have done many times before), then my brother was playing Sonic and the Black Knight with his friends when the Wii stooped reading disks, we tried then other disks but the system doesn't seem to even try. I guess I will try the disk cleaner once it arrives, and them send it to repair (unfortunately its on another state, and I don't like the idea of sending it trough packing but if there is no other choice...) If I could only move my save files to other Wii I wouldn't bother, but all the online enabled games can´t be transfered by SD card.
EDIT: to fix some tipos that YoungLink posted.

Solution: Get a cheating device or a cheating software. Use that software to help you copy protected data. Then buy a new Wii. then my brother was playing Sonic and the Black night with its friends BROTHER FAIL. If I could only move my save files to other Wii I wouldn't bother, but all the online enabled games can´t be transfered by SD card. Was I the only person to speak against internal memory when this was first announced? To be fair, in this aspect I have to say Sony is the smart one. After all, it was Sony who invented the idea of using memory cards for the problem that consoles cannot write to CDs. GC did a good job copying this, and I'd say that's even better with its use of a new unit, "blocks", to simplify matters for non-computer users. Wii, however, removed what its preceeder was good at. Doesn't quite matter to me though. I take my Wii as a new GC with an additional function to play Wii games.

I have always hated the fact that many games just got "online features" for the sake of having them, for example I have never used the online features of Metroid Prime 3 but just because the game has them its now hardwired to this "now crippled" Wii
Thanks! YL, so its possible to save the files that way (I was sooo close to getting everything in Brawl) I guess I will just have to wait a while till hackers get around Wii 4.0 which I just downloaded this week.

That sucks, man. I've dropped our Wii a few times from a decent height, but nothing has gone wrong so far...

That sucks, man. I've dropped our Wii a few times from a decent height, but nothing has gone wrong so far... The same can be said about my DS Lite, yet the thing's still gong strong, surprisingly. Not many drop-marks (cracks or whatever) on it either. Sorry to hear about all that, Flint.

I just got bad luck with CD based systems I guess, I have treated my Gamecube and Wii with the most possible care, but they still malfunctioned. And I also know people who treat them like garbage and they still work like a clock.
The only conclusion I could get from this its to never again buy a system on its launch day, as thats the only thing in common my Wii and Gamecube had (and neither my Nes, Snes, Gameboy color, GBA and DS had given me any trouble, they are also carttidge based, but if the DVD was the case, lots of people would had the same trouble with the Wii that I had)
And Thanks again YL I will do that as soon as I try the lens cleaner kit.

Might I use this topic to ask about my own Wii problem?
As of late my Wii's picture has been covered with vertical lines of black dots. I'm thinking (and hoping) it's just cause my AV cables have been twisted and contorted in every way possible, and are looking a bit worn down, but are black dots typical of a hardware failure?
And I don't think a lense cleaner would fix it, as they show up on the Menu too.

That doesn't sound good. Has this kind of thing happened with anyone else before, that you know of?

>Flint Oh, you're welcome.
I don't think I buy recent consoles from the first batch. I didn't actually pay for any hardware before DS and Wii, but my GC was from the first batch. It has issues with digital output and controller "neutral positioning" (controllers at port 2/3 recognised as movingeven when position is neutral, take a few tries and problem may fix automatically), but otherwise it's normal. My Wii is bought in last summer, and comes with 1mm strap and soft jacket. Since contacting Nintendo's HQ is hard in a non-Nintendo region, this saved me much effort.
Still... it's unfortunate of you.
>savageadam Photo please? Sounds to me some output problem. The hardware itself often has a higher chance to fail than cabling.

I heard smoking around the Wii damages it. And that dust will do the same.
But I don't think that's the problem. My Wii has acted funny in the past. Gets really hot, makes funny buzzing and whistling noises, unresponsive at times. But them I discovered that when it gets like that you simply unplug it for a day and presto! Good as new the next day!

I'll try and get some pictures up tommorow. In the meantime i'm gonna try leaving it unplugged overnight.
