Great googaly moogaly! I step away for a little bit only to come back to THIS bombshell! Right on, niggaz, right on. ;D Man, this is really awesome. I loves me some Ace Attorney, and Professor Layton has always been alluring, what with its unique art style and steampunkish atmosphere, so this is like a double-win. And hearing Phoenix go OBJECTION! in that intro is ballin'...even if it was in Japanese. XD; I also wonder who the Japanese VA for Phoenix is, and who the Japanese VA for Maya will be. I imagine it'll be Shu Takumi or Takayuki Kondou for Phoenix and Nana Mizuki for Maya. Now, I won't claim to know every last detail of the workings of the Ace Attorney Japanese voice actors/actresses, but I do know that the Japanese are crazy for their seiyuu. Since the above three people have voiced Phoenix and Maya to some extent (Takumi does Phoenix's in-game voice, while Kondou and Mizuki did Phoenix and Maya's Gyakuten Saiban trailer voices), and there are a ton of Gyakuten-related audio dramas and bonus clips on CDs and such, I'm pretty sure it'll be two of those three.

I hope it's closer to Ace Attorney than Layton. I've always been intrigued by the Layton games, but put off by the gameplay. "Progress through the story by solving this unrelated puzzle involving matchsticks!"
I don't want to, Professor. I don't want to.

Never played either, but I can get behind crazy awesome mashups like this.
Don't get the medieval theme though. Is that Layton's thing? Or have they gone back in time (since I heard another Layton game also involved time travel). I kinda hope it takes place in a british medieval fair out of control.

Don't get the medieval theme though. Is that Layton's thing? Or have they gone back in time (since I heard another Layton game also involved time travel). I kinda hope it takes place in a british medieval fair out of control. - Shu Takumi is heading up scenario work - features both puzzle and contradiction elements - Layton and Wright find themselves in a different world - they end up in the medieval location of Labyrinth City - town is home to witches that hide in shadows - magic is real in this town - strange events taking place - city is controlled by a villain named Story Teller - whatever he writes with his pen becomes reality - all new puzzles - the person (that blond haired girl in the trailer) looking for Wright's help has been accused of witchcraft - name of the trial is the Witch Trial- Level-5 is publishing www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=139675- idea of a collaboration between the two franchises came from Level-5 - Hino took the idea to Capcom himself - Hino: "I didn't think they'd give it the okay. I know there are many fans who are waiting for Ace Attorney 5, so is this really okay?" - Shu Takumi was surprised upon hearing the project idea, but was also excited as it would be his first crossover title - Hino: "We have Mr. Takumi working closely on the project. Looking at it as an Ace Attorney game, it will look like the real thing. Looking at it as a Professor Layton game, it will look like the real thing. With this collaboration between two titles, we're aiming to make an even bigger title." - Takumi: "With the cooperation of Level-5, we hope to deliver a game that exceeds everyone's expectations." - more details coming from the next issue of Famitsu - next issue will also have an interview with Akihiro Hino and Capcom head of development Keiji Inafune www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=139757Here is a fan translation of the trailer, its not an official one so details are subject to change. Layton: “The culprit behind the witchcraft that put the city in chaos…You are the very one!” Girl: “You’re wrong. I am not a witch.” Layton: “Then how did you know the contents of the book you could not have possibly read?” Phoenix: “OBJECTION! Professor, there is a glaring contradiction in your testimony.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke: “What’s written in the book becomes reality.” Maya: “What? That’s impossible!” — Girl: “I will probably be killed soon, it’s been written in the book.” Phoenix: “We won’t let that happen.” Layton: “Mr. Wright, I believe we both have made a grave error…” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Layton: “Now Luke, what a guardian of the law says is not necessarily the truth.” Phoenix: “To be honest, I don’t like that sir Silk Hat much at all…” I lol'ed at this one.

Well, Capcom USA has decided that, thanks to the 3DS, that localizing Ace Attorney Investigations 2 would not be worth it financially, so they're not going to bring it Stateside. Source.

Where does it mention anything about the 3DS, exactly?

That's my belief - sorry, should have made that clearer. I think Capcom wants to move on past localizing more DS games in favor of 3DS ones.

Oh, okay then. Anyway if anyone's interested, fans have started a petition to try and get Capcom to change their mind about this. I know it's a long shot, but you never know...

Capcom is fickle. Ace Attorney sells too well over here, so unless AAI1 bombed, there's no reason for them NOT to bring it stateside.
Just my two cents tho.

Capcom has officially announced a Phoenix Wright live action movie! Even better? It's being made in Japan, which means there's no way the likes of Uwe Boll can even come close to touching it. From Joystiq: Capcom has officially announced that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney will head to the cineplexes of Japan in Spring 2012. Wright will be played by Hiroki Narimiya (not ringing any bells?), while antagonistic attorney Miles Edgeworth will be played by Takumi Saito. Phoenix's charmingly naive assistant, Maya Fey, will be channeled by Mirei Kiritani.
Of course, you'll probably recognize the director (as reported earlier): Takashi Miike of Audition, Crows Zero and -- most recently -- Thirteen Assassins.Source.

You might also recognize Miike from No More Heroes 2. No, he didn't direct it or anything, but he was in the game as the fellow who took Travis' sensei's katana. That odd little scene was done specifically for Miike since he's friends with Suda, IIRC.

And here are the first screenshots of Layton VS Ace Attorney. I'm a bit disappointed that they've gone for a polygonal art style over sprites, but I guess it looks pretty good. Still, here's hoping that the eventual Ace Attorney 5 goes back to the awesome sprites.

Hello, I'm Monkey D. Super, nice to meet you all. Its Sunday the 29th today which is the day of the AA 10th Anniversary Court event and I just wanted to share this little bit of news with you.... .....ACE ATTORNEY 5!!!!!!!! (Thats right, I was so happy that I had to make an account! ) I do wonder why this (and the whole 10th Anniversary Court event) waited until January this year instead of September/October last year to be announced, but whatever, I'm still glad it finaly happened. From Court Records.net: " It's real, folks. Platform and plot of the game were not announced.
Also announced was "Gyakuten Saiban 123HD", for iOS (iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPod Touch 3rd/4th, iPad/iPad 2)."news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/452/452047/court-records.net/www.capcom.co.jp/gyakutensaiban/Of course, I do hope they localize this when it's out or Capcom will burn (looks at AAI2). EDIT: Oh right, the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney movie is getting a worldwide release by the way. forums.court-records.net/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=21615" Interestingly, the subtitles used names from the Western versions of the games, while the Japanese soundtrack used the original Japanese names. During the Q&A after the film, Miike revealed that there are plans for a worldwide release of "Ace Attorney", with each region getting dubs and subs using the character names from the Phoenix Wright games released in that region. A bold statement but who knows: it might work... I was surprised at how many people here in The Netherlands turned out to be a fan of these games. " Meh, I'm not a fan of video games based movies like many other people, never been, but I do admit that this movie looks pretty decent so far, plus being directed by Takashi Miike makes it a little interesting.
