Wow, I kinda wonder if there is an option to leisurely explore the resort on foot... Probably not, but that place looks pretty neat.

^ Grand Theft Auto clone with Miis set on the Island and all the vehicles have been replaced with Bikes, Segways and Jet Skis.
...I'd buy it.

There's been tons of videos of people playing (the Japanese build of) WSR on the net now. Here's some of Airplane (awesome), Frisbee Golf and Sword Chopping.

I'm sure this was due out in Europe by now... but it seems I was mistaken (or it got pushed back), as it's now got an end-of-July release.
I'll just have to make do with Another Code: R ;D

Airplane battle . . . At sunset (Cue wild west music).
Basketball anyone . . . ?
EDIT: Disc golf footage.
Also according to Nintendo of Europe, WSR will be given the biggest advertising push of any Wii game this year.
“Wii Sports Resort is tthe biggest launch on Wii this year. We are hoping to break the records set by Mario Kart Wii and then Wii Fit, and achieve a No.1 in the All Formats and the Wii charts. We have a huge TV campaign running over three months, a print campaign that will include cover-wraps on The Daily Star, Metro and Shortlist, an online takeover on MSN and all the major gaming websites, as well as a cinema campaign alongside Harry Potter. Below the line, we have one of our biggest ever sampling campaigns planned in, based around a beach resort theme, as well as a massive PR push. I’d say it’s probably the biggest campaign I’ve ever been involved with."
“Nintendo has decided to slightly move away from the ‘Wii family around the sofa’ style of advertising, and are now showing sporting professionals from around Europe trying out their expertise on Wii Sports Resort. The initial cuts of the Wii Sports Resort ad campaign really look fantastic, and we hope it will gain major cut-through to our broad Wii audience. We’ll be targeting a very broad audience when the game is released in July – as Wii Sports Resort really is for anyone.”
- Nintendo’s senior product manager Robert Lowe.

Iwata Asks Wii Sports Resort is online. A very good read. Includes Miyamoto talking about the "island as a character concept" including how he wants to license out the island as a franchise. An idea he had for more than 10 years. Even more amazing is that Miyamoto wanted to have a game where you could just have a fly freely through the skies since PilotWings (in 1990, yes he waited nearly 20 years) and his interest in a water skiing game helped inspire Wave Race 64 and the inclusion of wakeboarding in WSR. Don't worry the entire interview isn't about Miyamoto though. Those were some interesting points I found.

I so want that Island to be a stage for Smash 4. Same here. It would probably turn into something similar to Defino Plaza from SSBB though, but probably with a whole lot activites/Mii's doing things, like cycling in the background, firing arrows at you, maybe fight on top of the wings of the airplane, fall with skydivers etc. WSR has also been the best selling game of June in Japan. (even though it was only out for 4 days but it was supposedly a slow month. Source.
