Because the forums look as dead as ever (with a single digit amount of post made each day), maybe I'll try to have you speak... though I doubt it'll help much.
Anyway, I'm asking for your preferred method to control games. For example, how do you play Brawl? Mario Kart Wii?
I list my own opinions here.
- Super Smash Bros Brawl: GC Controller, default control scheme
- Mario Kart Wii Wii Remote, with Wii Wheel.
- Super Mario 64 DS Usually Dual Hands, but in fixed camera angles stage (Bowser stages, Stage 7, Stage 15) I change to Standard.
- Magnetica Touch screen because I can't unlock button control. Quest mode is so hard.
- Tetris DS - Puzzle Touch screen. Button control look slower.
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn GC Controller.
- Nintendo Puzzle Colletion GC Controller. GBA doesn't feel right unless you look at the GBA screen.
- Zelda: Four Swords Adventures - 1P Hyrulean Adventure Same as above.
- Mario Paty 6 & 7 - Mic modes Actual Mic. The R button way too strange.

Super Smash Bros Brawl Gamecube controller, default.
Mario Kart Wii Wii Remote & Nunchuk - combines the non-retarded controls of the Gamecube controller with the special moves you can only apparently do with the Wii Remote (why can't I dodge POW Blocks with the GC controller? Stupid game!!)
Super Mario 64 DS I controlled nearly the whole game with the thumb nubbin (that's a point... do the DS Lite and DSi come with one of those? I used it for SM64 and Metroid Prime Hunters, but have never used it since). There was one star (the Ghost House switch race) where I had to switch to standard controls because the nubbin didn't let you run fast enough. Retarded.

nunchuk + wiimote combo is super comfortable, i generally prefer it in most cases.
for ds, touch screen controls are generally a pain (when the game isn't built around touch control - see SM64DS and the like) , so i'll use the buttons.

Brawl: I'm the only one of my friends, both online and off, who uses the Wiimote and Numchuck. It's mostly default, though I've moved the grab/shield/throw button to C (because pressing A and B at the same time never worked ever), and allocated my taunts to the D-pad, since it's much easier to reach mid-match.
Super Mario 64 DS: Two-hand scheme, because using the touch screen to move the character is disasterous.
And I haven't bought Mario Kart Wii because the graphics genuinely bother me to the point of genuine annoyance. Besides, I have MK64 on my Virtual Console and Mario Kart DS, and that's all the Mario Kart you'll ever need.
Um...
Saint's Row 2: I use the control layout that's closest to Grand Theft Auto. Before SR2 came along, I played the shit out of GTA: San Andreas, so whenever I went with SR2's default control scheme I kept fucking up, being used to GTA: SA's. So I swapped it over to the GTA-styled controls and haven't been able to break the habit.
That's all I gots.

I pick the good ol' Gamecube controller over the Wiimote if possible. Pretty much only Brawl and Mariokart. While I'm at it, RTS and FPS games are meant to be played with mouse and keyboard. Platformers and racing games on the other hand are best with a joystick. (why can't I dodge POW Blocks with the GC controller? Stupid game!!) You can! Just tap the wheelie button (up on the D-pad) like crazy when the POW block shows up and you'll pretty much always dodge it.

Let's see... I've got others. - Kirby Air Ride (Air and City), Fire Emblem series, Nintendo Puzzle Collection with GC controller, Melee and Brawl menu, and most other things that allows contro with 2 or 3 directional inputs D-pad for movement. It's much easier to use that thing than the 3D stick for basic movements that don't require any accleration and non-basic direction. - New Super Mario Bros A = Jump, B = Speed (because I can't change the menu control so that B = Confirm, Y = Cancel) - Virtual Console GC Controller because Classic Controller costs moeny. And as far as I know, Virtual Console is not nearly as good as those emulators you play with your computer. Unless Nintendo improves, I don't really think 1000 points per game sounds as attractive as all-in-one emulators of console, add ons, cheat devices, screen capture devices, netplay devices and savestate loader. Players who don't care about anything can pretty much, well, get everything for free. We even have Wii emulation now so what's the point in paying besides as a tribute? Time to reflect, Nintendo, and at least allow for game customization.(why can't I dodge POW Blocks with the GC controller? Stupid game!!) You can! Just tap the wheelie button (up on the D-pad) like crazy when the POW block shows up and you'll pretty much always dodge it. Which almost equals "you can't" because you only have one left thumb.

If you're too retarded to have your index finger take over control for a second then yeah I guess you can't

SSBB - GC controller
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - GC Controller
Mario Kart Wii - Either the GC controller or the Wiimote+Nunchuck combo (defending on what I feel like using)
Punch-Out!! - Wiimote/Nunchuck controls.
LoZ: Four Swords - GC controller, unless I'm forced to play in multiplayer.
In short, if there is an option to forsake the motion/touch controls, I will use it 95% of the time.

Brawl: ....and allocated my taunts to the D-pad, since it's much easier to reach mid-match. Oh yeah, I forgot, but I did this too. Much better than this 1 and 2 button nonsense.

Super Smash Bros. BrawlClassic Controller, and GameCube controller where the former is not available (everywhere but home). Super Mario 64 DSLet's just say I despise this game PokémonAlways the control pad except when entering text, baking Poffins, etc. I don't use the stylus for commands. Picross DSAlways the stylus, no matter how large the panel is. Mortal Kombat: ArmageddonI just began playing this game, using the Wii Remote + Nunchuk. Being accurate is a pain, but at least you don't need to memorize too many button combinations this way. In general, in DS games, the only thing I demand is not needing to switch between buttons and stylus.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Classic Controller Honestly, the only reason I use the CC instead of the GC controller is because i'm so god damn TIRED of using the GC controller in Smash Bros. Weird reason, I know. I have absolutely nothing against the old sexy purple blob, (old nickname, don't ask...) I just got tired of it. XD (And I only have a WaveBird at the moment, so rumble means nothing to me)
Mario Kart Wii: Wiimote and Nunchuck Can't say alot about this, as I don't own the game, but i've tried all the control scemes, and I like this one best.
Punch-Out!!: Wiimote and Nunchuck See MKWii.
Non-NES Virtual Console games: Classic Controller I find the CC and GC controller to be pretty much equal in most aspects, so really the only reason I picked the CC for this is because I like it's D-Pad better. But the reason I specifically said Non-NES games will be explained next...
NES Virtual Console Games/WiiWare Games with the option: Wiimote on side Really only two reasons for this. First, I like my simple games with a simple remote. Second, even though I mentioned I preferred the CC D-Pad to the GC D-Pad, I prefer the Wiimote D-Pad to both of them. The CC's just feels too big for NES games, and the GC's just feels weird to me.
Games where the Nunchuck is optional (Animal Crossing, Wii Play Tanks, Mario Power Tennis, Sega Superstars Tennis) : Nunchuck Animal Crossing doesn't feel quite right to me when played like a point and click. And having the "Move" and "Select/Action" commands set to the same button is nothing but bad. As for the others, the d-pad just doesn't get the job done in Tanks, and Wii Sports Tennis-esque automatically-moving-characters only worked in Wii Sports Tennis.
All I got for the moment. I might add some more later.

Combo Meal: Probably because Melee was there for 7 years before anew Smash Bros came out. I still play Melee nowm though.
And the D-pad thing... What about Nintendo 64 games that don't use it? How Classic Controller put the D-pad is strange. (And seriously, Nintendo, copying the copycat?)

Again, I consider the CC and GC to be pretty much equal, but i'm just tired of the GC controller. Simple as that. Also, the PS DualShock/Classic Controller layout is one of my favorite layouts ever. It just feels good to my incredibly stick-like hands and fingers. *holds up flame shield*
