It's not that. It's that the game is supposed to PLAY like the classics as opposed to just LOOKING like them. This game is Sonic the Hedgehog 4. A CONTINUATION of the original trilogy. That implies that it should play like them but not contain the exact same level tropes and features. What we got here is the opposite. The game looks like a carbon copy of Sonic 2 but plays like Sonic Rush without the boost. This certainly isn't what I'd expect from a game called "Sonic 4".

So, "it's the same now it sucks" and "they changed it now it sucks?" This is why the Sonic fanbase is an unpleasable fanbase.

It's not like all three/four of the classic games played exactly the same. Each game had changes to the formula. Sonic IV looks to have added in the same way. Sonic 2 had the spindash, Sonic 3 had the gimmick shields and the boost.

Yeah except in this case the changes appear to make the game worse. The homing attack wasn't meant for 2D games and Sonic Rush's engine is virtually nothing like Sonic 1-3 (all of which, in spite of differing gimmicks, had essentially the same engine).

Yeah except in this case the changes appear to make the game worse. I've never played any of the Sonic Rushs before, but since this will be no more than 15 bucks I'm gonna go buy it anyway and see how awesome/awful it is myself. Afterall it can't be much worse than that fugly Adventure Island Wiiware game.

My issue isn't with the gameplay (having not played it yet, since it's not out, durr ). It's with the fact that this game is claiming to be a sequel, but is actually just a remake.

True, from the few trailers I've seen it did make me go 'Oh hey, a casino/labyrinth zone!... kinda like Sonic 2.' I don't mind it that much, but since there are only 5-something zones it is a bit underwhelming. I guess they're just trying to play it safe and give us Sonic 2-2... while applying Sonic 3's 2-part episodic strategy But hey I'm a sucker for 2D platformers plus new level designs either way so booyea first day purchase

Oh hey, it's 15 bucks.Seems like a bit much, but that may be because I was only half interested in the first place.

* iPhone on October 7th ( Across all territories. No price mentioned as of yet.) * Wii Shop Channel on October 11th (15th in EMEA countries) for 1500 points. * PlayStation Network on October 12th (13th in EMEA countries) for $14.99 / £9.99 / €12.99 / AU$19.95 * XBOX Live Arcade on October 13th (across all territories) for 1200 points.
It's a lot cheaper on the PS3 than it is on anything else (for us in the UK, anyway), for some reason.

That fan remix looks mad cool.
Also since I've actually bought and played Sonic 4 I can now agree that yeah the gameplay isn't as fun (Sonic accelerates wayyy too slow) and the copy/pasting of zones is pretty lame. I mean Green Hill has the excuse of being the first and more or less recurring zone and seeing those old badniks again is pretty cool. Mad Gear looking EXACTLY like Metropolis is not and my god how I hate those fucking mantis and spikey star robots why would you bring those back RAGE

I actually quite enjoyed the game, but that's probably because I was expecting a complete disappointment. The stages and bosses mostly have a decent amount of new gimmicks which made them interesting enough. The only things that really ruined it for me were the broken rolling physics and the awful, awful, AWFUL boss music. And that terrible cannon stage in Casino Street.

I bought it yesterday. It isn't terrible, but it's not worth 15 bucks. Easily the worst thing about it is the fact that Sonic handles nothing like he's supposed to. It almost feels like they gimped his aerial movement and rolling speed to justify putting the Homing Attack in, which is generally the easiest way to get around quickly. Not cool.
This aside, the rest of the game is actually not half bad. Most of the stages are pretty true to the classics (save the pointless boosters, automatic spring chains and Bubbles that are only there to be Homing Attack'd, all three of which are in every stage) and some of the bad music was made to sound better on the Wii version (except Mad Gear, which manages to sound bad even though it was originally the best song in the game).
I happen to really like the card stage from Casino Street and the Special Stage, myself.

Using the homing attack as a boost wouldn't be so bad if you weren't vulnerable after using it. I can't count the amount of times I decided to boost forward only to land ontop some floating badnik and lose my stash of rings again.
Also rolling into a ball really slows you down now. Whenever I come across a loop I just curl up so I can immidiatly roll through badniks after, but most of the time Sonic's ball form isn't fast enough and he just rolls back.
On the plus side this game made me play Sonic Mega Collection again. Got to world 9 in Flicky, wooo!
