Maybe you should do all those. I thought your intention was to condense all the pages remember?
That WAS the intention, but notice how it didn't happen. That's because it was a largely unworkable concept for the majority of Nintendo's series. Tested but ultimately scrapped.
Counting NES Pinball, Game & Watch Pinball and Galactic Pinball as part of the Pinball series.
So just because Nintendo publishes three Pinball games, including one that is distinctly different in name, theme and style on Virtual Boy, they should be grouped? On that logic, EarthBound and Pokemon should be in the same series as well, as they're both RPGs.
Have a "Sports series" page for all the NES and Game Boy Sports games.
Would you include Excitebike and F-1 Race in that? And if so, why not also include the Famicom Grand Prix games? Would Pro Wrestling and Volleyball count, even though they originated on the Famicom Disk System? What about Punch-Out!! which is already its own series, but would be a glaring omission from any list of NES sports games.
Without another series tying them together, the only thing that links these sports games is the system they appear on - and there's already an NES page...
Alternatively, count the Mario sports spinoffs as part of the different sports series, Mario was already in Mario Open Golf, and you once said yourself that Mario Strikers feels like an update to Nintendo World Cup (Which technically isn't a Nintendo game because it's actually a Kunio-kun spinoff but you get my point.)
I said that? I was probably drunk (as usual). I probably only meant that it's soccer with violence, and nothing deeper than that. Nevertheless, Nintendo World Cup has been removed from the site for not being a Nintendo game.
I have toyed with the idea of tying all of the similar sports titles together somehow, but that's not going to happen right now.
-Count Teleroboxer as part of the Punch-Out!! series.
-Count Arm Wrestling as part of Punch-Out!! (this one in particular boggles me)
Yes, they share the same development team and similar gameplay mechanics, but they are different series. Why not list Tomato Adventure as a predecessor to Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga?
There's no way to universally negate all of the conflicts, and what I spent most of the last year doing is minimising the conflicts as much as possible to make series distinctions clear. Yes, Arm Wrestling and Teleroboxer should be mentioned somewhere in the Punch-Out!! section, but they will not be considered part of the "main series" - but either as spinoffs or simply as "also of interest". This latter option has yet to be built into the site.
And before citing that Arm Wrestling should totally be in there because Bald Bull's in the game, it's worth pointing out that Donkey Kong's inclusion in the Wii version doesn't make it part of the Donkey Kong series. It's a cameo, pure and simple.
Put all the different DS training applications like English Training and Vision Training as part of the same series.
Tried this, and it didn't work. There's actually very little that unites the "DS Training" series, and I found lumping them together caused more problems than it solved.
Put all the Game & Watch games as one series instead of just individual series for one piece of hardware.
Tried this too. It seemed mean spirited to include everything
except the branded Mario and DK games... but then why create a "Game & Watch Series" page at all when I already have a "Game & Watch" system page that lists all of the games broken down into their sub-series?
There's a lot of expansion still to come on the site regarding remakes that is still to come. Ball's page, for example, will include information on all the remakes of Ball, for example. Similarly, Super Mario Bros. will have a "Super Mario Bros. in Super Mario All-Stars" section. The compilations will then merely consist of links to the games they contain, with minimal extra information (as they should).
1. I thought you said you were going to split Mario into different sub-series. Are Wario and Yoshi going to be part of these sets of subseries?
Mario, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Kirby and Zelda (maybe Metroid and a couple others) now contain sub-series of their own, and it was always my intention to eventually break these down. And it still is my intention to do this. Some games will end up as part of a lot of series, but I think that's unavoidable at this point.
2. Howcome some games are still listed on the Single Games side even though they're already listed as part of the series on the Series side?
The ONLY ones that fit this category are the Art Style games. This is because Art Style is an arbitrary series name, and the games under the banner are as distinct from each other as Zelda and Kirby.
So why did this one survive while the DS Training series didn't? Because DS Training is an equally arbitrary series name, but only relevant to Japanese releases. "Art Style" is a worldwide brand that may one day become irrelevant when (and if) the individual games break away. "DS Training" is already an irrelevant label for the US and Europe.
In a similar way, I refuse to have a "Touch! Generations Series" (because several of the series that fall under this banner are already irrelevant to it as they have Wii sequels) or a "Personal Trainer Series" (as this is only relevant to the USA).
If Nintendo Co. Ltd. keeps making Cooking Navi games in the future, NoA is going to be kicking itself that it came up with such a shitty brand for the series' first installment. Reminds me of the Starwing/Lylat Wars titling...
Maybe one day the Art Generations Series page will disappear. Until that day, it's going to stand out as an oddity.
