Hello everyone. I come back for a quick question. Who owns the rights to Professor Layton? Is it Level 5 or Nintendo. Most sources seem to credit both.
Anyway, seems like some interesting stuff is going on. Site looks good. And Happy Birthday Flip.

Over my region, it's not even Nintendo-related at all. Period.
There are a lot of reasons that I don't trust online source. One reason being westerner sources don't cite Japanese info at all and vice versa. As a result, information could be at most 75% correct (for telling about the American, European and Australian versions correctly) and 25% at worst (applies to one region only).

Level 5 owns the rights, characters, gameplay, music, etc. from what I understand. Nintendo merely licensed it for NA and Europe, if I remember right.

Professor Layton is only published by Nintendo outside of Japan because Level 5 has no international offices. So, Nintendo does not own the series.

Indeed. Chances of Layton showing up in a Smash Bros. game = 0% (well, he's not exactly a gaming icon like Snake or Sonic is he!)
Nintendo only owns the "overseas" publishing rights. Level 5 owns everything else in the game. Nintendo was not involved in the development of the games themselves, but publishing, distribution and marketing outside of Japan (which is why Iwata discussed the game at a recent summit regarding the different boxart between regions, and the long-term success regarded as largely down to the European boxart).

"Looked like Mario cleaned Link's clock, Professor!" "Quite right, my boy. Say, that reminds me of a puzzle..."

"Now Luke, a gentleman never punches a lady, even if she is wearing a Chozodian Power Suit." "Cor, professor! 'Ow did you git so genteel, boy crikey!" "Shut the fuck up, Luke. Serious."

LOL
What's funniest about that is that I can hear Layton saying that clear as day in my head. Cutting room floor, perhaps?
