Okay, here's the deal: I have four Famicom-era characters I'm looking for pictures for. What I need are pictures at least 350 pixels high with one-color backgrounds (preferably white, but not required.) Here are the characters and their respective games....
Donbe - Shin Onigashima Hikari - Shin Onigashima Goku - Yuyuki Mach Rider - Mach Rider Bubbles - Clu Clu Land Tamagon - Devil World
If anyone has an image of these characters that fits description, please give it to me, alternatively, If anyone knows where I can find one, tell me where. Using search engines is getting me nothing I want.
By the way, I want them in their forms from the Famicom. In the case of Donbe, I want the Disc 1 design, for Hikari, I want her Famicom design and NOT her Captain Rainbow look.
Basically, for those characters you have the boxart to work with and that's it. Your best option is to find the highest quality artwork you can and do a clean cutout around it in Photoshop or similar.
Best option is to go to Wikipedia and copy the Japanese names of the games into Google image search. You tend to get boxart, flyers and all sorts.
I'm sure I've got a big image of Donbe knocking around, but Hikari only shows up as a small background character in the art. I did find a flyer the other day for Yuuyuuki that had a piece of official artwork of Chao, which I had never seen before... so artwork for these characters is still out there.
Of course, you could also buy and scan the game covers/manuals yourself
Artwork of the characters can be found, but I fear it won't fulfill your requirements in terms of size and/or background. As Fryguy said, it is helpful to search for the spelling in Japanese characters with Google. Anyway, here's what I found:
Nester the Lark: Also, I know YL isn't into speedruns, but he might be interested to know that RPG Limit Break is having a Gust marathon all weekend, including several Atelier games.

nocturnal YL: Ah… Bad timing. I didn't read this until now, when it's almost over.

Nester the Lark: Well, if you're still interested, they'll be uploading the replays to their YouTube channel later this week.

Shrikeswind: I like that Mayles put her back in her kneepads. What's the last game they were in? One of the Kongas? It was a good look for her, albeit very 90's.

Shrikeswind: The jokes call to me, their siren song a temptation I can hardly bear, yet I must stay my tongue. Confound my dirty sense of humor.

Nester the Lark: The replies I see to anything Nintendo posts on Twitter are probably an indication as to why they abandoned Miiverse and decided that social media should be someone else's responsibility.

nocturnal YL: As mentioned in Twitter, I'm currently playing Atelier Meruru DX. I'm thinking about writing reviews for the Arland series afterwards, as well as making a second Nintendo Switch review video after I finish either this or my next game.

Nester the Lark: ^ I would be interested in seeing your reviews of the Arland games.

Nester the Lark: So, there's been Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. But guys, how about this: Punch-out Warriors! It's like Punch-out, but you fight all of your opponents at once!

Shrikeswind: Sounds punchy, but unless it's a real knock-out I don't think it'd be a hit.
