Hey guys ever feel Pac-Man been getting pretty poor treatment? For such an iconic video game you'd think he'd be getting some really spectacular games! But that's not the case.
Namco has been giving Pac-Man some less than stellar games that are developed by... I don't know, but the World series haven't been too great. (still better than the current Sonic games)
However in World 3 he... TALKS? And in not some silly happy-go-lucky "Wakka-Weee!" like we'd expect. No they give him some generic-joe voice!
*Ahem* But that's besides the point.
Who here feels Pac-Man needs some sort of awesome revival that's not in the form of shovelware adventures or arcade bundles?
Discuss!

How should Pac-Man be revived? Let's think about it for a bit... Pac-Man's best game was the first game and it involved nothing but eating dots, fruits, and ghosts in a maze. So, maybe if Pac-Man got a new game where he must navigate his way out of a 3D maze while collecting all the dots on the way? But how could we make mazes more interesting? Maybe the mazes could have switches to open/close paths, one-way paths, revolving doors that switch directions every time Pac-Man walks through it, locked doors that are opened with fruits, you know... a game with nothing but Zelda-like dungeons filled with dots, fruits, and ghosts. Maybe it sounds like a bad idea but it is something to think about.

Personally, I enjoyed the first two Pac-Man World games. The first one's use of obscure characters (Prof. Pac is about as obscure as they get with Namco), decent original characters (Tock Man) and friggin' Galaga made it an enjoyable game. It was waaaay to difficult though. A new game based on this engine would be nice.
The second game was more of the same, but without the emphasis on the Pac characters. However, the use of the ghosts was nice, as was the use of Pac-Village.
Really, if they focused on making PMW 1 styled games every few years, I'd be a happy Pac fan.

Maybe what Pac's getting is all they can give him. After you hit the top there isn't anywhere else to go but down. Namco does a good job of making a stable and good series of it, but when Pac Man was created Namco set a standard not easy to reattain. It's kinda sad, actually. Such glory so quickly lost.

From what I've heard, there's a new Pac-man game being made for the 30th anniversary of the series that's being worked on by Hirokazu Yasuhara. Yasuhara was the designer/director of the original four Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Genesis, as well as a designer for the Jak and Daxter series and the first Uncharted game on the PS3.

I've not played many Pac-Man games in the past 2 decades (yeah, past) but I like and recommend Pac 'n Roll for the DS. It was as if they had found a reason to keep Pac-Man a ball while hunting for Pac-Dots. A sequel would be cool. Also, Pac-Man needs to appear in Nintendo crossovers more often

Not one of you have mentioned Pacman Champion(ship?) Edition, which is by far the greatest version of Pacman since the old arcade days. Its simple, really - Pacman built itself on classic arcade gameplay, and it works best in this format. Forget turning him into some boring generic platform character, just expand the arcade style gameplay like the CE did.

Maybe it sounds like a bad idea but it is something to think about. Oh yeah I had ideas like that too! Imagine a giant 3D maze like building blocks. Different stages that have various gimmicks like flipping to the underside of an inverted maze, pushing blocks around the maze to fill gaps, springs located in the maze bounce you to higher areas... Hell there can be boss mazes where all four ghosts unite and transform into a big monster! Run around the maze and try to survive the boss' attacks until a Power Pellet appears and you split the boss into the four ghost and eat them. Anyway, Qu, I agree that the first two World games were pretty good but they don't live up to the name Pac-Man has for himself.

Clearly neither Koopaul nor Arcadenik have played Mrs. Pac-Man Maze Madness, Ms. Pac-Man's Quest for the Golden Maze or Pac-Man's Adventures in Time. ;D
I kinda like his average joe voice. It reminded me of the old Pac-Man cartoon, which the Pac-Man universe as seen today is based on, no doubt.

I must admit that platforming with Pac-Man is a bit fun, but he should be done classically. A more maze-like structure to Pac would be good.
What if Pac took some non-Pac elements into it? I don't mean playing Super Pac-Man Bros., I mean some fun from other, similar games, for example, a Devil World-esque maze in which a wall attacks you or where you have to shove an item into the center to gain Ghost-chomping or be allowed to proceed, like a red item pushed in to open a red door. Or a sort of third-person perspective, like following Pac around in his maze. Basements, attics, doors, crushers, all kinds of things could go in Pac-Man. I could go on, but I won't since I'm on my mom's laptop.

There's a lot of episodes of it on that there YouTube. Just a few of them: Apparently, the Ghost Monsters are commanded by this weirdo named Mezmeron. Strange.

I highly doubt anybody's clamoring for a remake of Pac-Land, Parrot. If anything, the Pac-Man World games already gave as an (over)dose of Pac-platforming.
