Ah, but that would imply anybody from Nintendo is humble enough to know fear. They're arrogant as fuck, which is why we're still getting wagglefest games.

They stole pretty much everything about the iPod branding (at least for the packaging) for the Wii, and to some quite significant success. So it's not really a surprise that he was called on to comment on the iPad.
The biggest surprise is that he commented on it at all. Can you imagine Hiroshi Yamauchi doing the same?
Q. So what do you think of the Apple iPad? A. What za fuck? Appulu is za biggestu pile of fuck! Get za fuck out of my officu! I am za lichest man in Japan! Fuck you!!!

Actually, Iwata is a big Apple Fanboy, and loved the iPhone. Also, Iwata admitted at its announcement that the DSi XL was a bigger DSi, rather than a revolutionary new platform.

It's a toss-up, really. I wrote about disadvantages and advantages of the DSi vs. the iPod touch (this was before iPad came along) in my blog and decided that even though the DSi was better suited to games, Team Apple has some serious backers to it (i Love Katamari is one of my current favorites)

My take: Everyone raves about it for 3 months, a new iPad is announced and there'll be a flood of criticism on this one. Like everything else Apple does. Absolute Obsolesence. It's the new wave in waste.

Just like how my DS became obsolete when we got the DS Lite, yeah?
Thats technology.

I like Apple stuff, but I am not an early-adopter of Apple products. I'm the guy who will go get one when everybody else has one, the bugs have been ironed out, and they're significantly cheaper.
Which is the opposite of how I am with Nintendo products! ;D
And a big touch screen tablet is only good if there is a benefit to having it. Being compatible with all the same gubbins as the iPod Touch and iPhone is fine, but then why not buy an iPod Touch or an iPhone?
Like all consumer electronics, it's only worth anything if there's serious attempts to take advantage of the format. Apple's very likely to get that kind of developer support eventually, but not immediately, and until that level of support comes through it's not going to capture the massmarket appeal.
But again, that's true of any consumer electronics. A videogame console is only as good as the software it can play.

I'm going to wait for the inevitable macPad Pro that will eventually come out in a year or 2 that will be the iPad that we all wanted from the beginning. For me the iPad is only useful if I can install any osx program (i.e Photoshop, VLC, Azureus), right now it is way too limited. It might be a great games console, but my 360 does that and better so thats not enough of a hook for me.
It will be a huge success though. They will be sold out for a long time. Even if buyers will take it home, open it up, start it up and go "Why can't I do this?!!!", "Where the hell is flash??", "Where is the SD slot??" and finally "Why did I buy this piece of crap?".
