and then there was FIRE EMBLEM!! Today is the twentieth anniversary of the release of Fire Emblem Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light. Twenty years ago players across Japan joined forces with Prince Marth and took their first footsteps across the Kingdom of Talys, beginning their quest to defeat King Medeus of Dolhr. Today I wish to celebrate this awesome milestone by reminiscing about a simpler time, a time where there were wars of man and dragon. A time where two armies clashed over the power of their gods. This is Fire Emblem. Take a look back at the Fire Emblem games that you have played and remember fondly. Then remember where it all started with a dark dragon, a sword of light, and the Fire Emblem.

The only Fire Emblem game I played and remember fondly... is the DS remake. I really should check out the SNES ones sometime. Still, I'm happy NoA decided to bring this to the west after such a long time. Better late then never! Happy 20th anniversary Fire Emblem!

Hm, if I get the time, I'll see if I can put together some sort of article on my time with the series. Thanks for the notice, Leon!
Happy anniversary, FE! ^_^

I could never really get into Fire Emblem. Permanently losing any character that died and weapons that break after so many uses turned me off.

The permanent death and breaking weapons is what sets Fire Emblem above all the other SRPG's out there. Remove those and there would be no consequences for playing poorly. That is why Fire Emblem is regarded in such a high manner. In honour of the anniversary here is the first episode from the OVA released back in 1996. Part 2 www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfJIxgzL228&feature=relatedPart 3 www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UN_lqoBO5A&feature=relatedI included the last parts as links because I didn't want to overload the page with ads. Enjoy.

I like the Japanese version more, because of the same voice actor of Marth also being used in the SSB series. Also, its translation sounds more accurate than the dub's. I noticed that the sound of the deer being hurt was also used in Taito's Dinorex, a fighting arcade game featuring dinosaurs, which was released a year before the more popular Primal Rage by Atari. Dinorex is most likely the earliest fighting game to feature some "down attack".

I think a lot of the characters had voices that really matched their personalities. I really think the casting for Marth, Caeda, Cornelius, Kain, and Jagen was top notch. In all respects I believe that this show is absolutely equal in both Japanese and English.
