More info on the Throwback Galaxy, now that I've got access to it: * Whomps make the same grunt when they flop down on the ground, and also when you stomp on their backs * You start in the same exact place you did in SM64 * The spot where the cannon was has been replaced by a square pit with a launch star inside * There are still butterflies near the beginning and off to the right given the way his tongue works.

Possibly....but Yoshi in SMG2 already has everything covered save for egg-throwing, which I think might be redundant given the way his tongue works. You know what? I agree with you. I noticed that if you point at the screen, Yoshi will spit the enemy to that spot. Throwing eggs would have worked the same way. If SMG is the new SMB3 and SMG2 is the new SMW... then I hope the next 3D Mario game is the new SMB2/SM64. I want to play as Toad and Peach in a 3D Mario game and explore around Peach's castle again.

More Throwback Galaxy stuff:
* The corners of the walls that you had to blow off in the "Blow Away the Walls" Star in SM64 are missing, as if they'd previously been destroyed * The tall flagpole near the top of the fortress has a 1-Up on top, similar to how you had to ascend it in order to make a 1-Up appear in SM64 * Running through the butterflies I mentioned above - if you can do it, it's not easy - still rewards you, though with Star Bits rather than 1-Ups or bombs.

I always figured the painting worlds in Peach's Castle lead to SOMEWHERE. Maybe Whomp's Fortress was Throwback Galaxy all these years? ;D I also noticed all the SMW references, which is completely and incredibly awesome. Also the first Galaxy had those jellyfish enemies from Yoshi's Island, and Magikoopas played a somewhat integral role, so I figure those were the "influences" from the Yoshi games. And the dragon boss in SMG2 does look awfully familiar to the dragons from that one level in Yoshi's Story, don't they? Yoshi does NOT butt stomp, btw. That bugs the hell out of me. My friend was so confused when I kept telling him Yoshi can butt stomp. I don't know why--he's played Smash Bros. and Sunshine, both games where Yoshi uses butt stomping ALL THE TIME. My money's on the next 3D Mario being like Mario 64 We already got Mario 2: it was Mario Sunshine, the bastard child of the trio that lacked any of the original gameplay and had NOTHING in common with the older game

A couple more... * The Roller Coaster Galaxy has a star called "The Rainbow Road Roll." In it, most of the course is patterned like, well, any Rainbow Road in any Mario Kart game. Most of you already knew about it, but I might as well put it down here. * The Twisty Trials Galaxy is reminiscent of all of the FLUDD-less areas in Mario Sunshine, down to the bizarre, 8-bit backgrounds.

It's not just reminiscent- it's a remake of Ricco Harbor's fourth mission secret shine according to Mario Wiki.
The comet star of Roller Coaster Galaxy also has Rainbow Road in the title. Rainbow Road Purple Coins, IIRC.

Crabber's come in two different varieties, red and blue. (I don't remember if the blue ones were in the first Galaxy) The blue ones move faster than the red ones, similar to Sidesteppers. In Tall Trunk Galaxy, there is a star called Tall Trunk's Big Slide. In it you go down a big slide (surprise) and the music from the secret slide in Mario 64 plays.

(I don't remember if the blue ones were in the first Galaxy) Yeah, they were in Galaxy 1. They already gave you 1-ups upon defeating them (which is why I used to call them "green" rather than blue or cyan or whatever ;D).

Yeah, this coloring does suggest a blend of both blue and green.

Ah, Teev... determined, as always, to find Sidestepper cameos The main thing with the Blue Crabbers is that they run away from you rather than towards you, and reward you a 1UP. As far as I can tell, they aren't actually noticably faster... they just go the wrong way. As for the Slider music, it appears in a couple of places, so I'm tempted to keep that as in-series continuity.
