You know, when you collect the rainbow coloured notes? Has anyone worked out what many of the tunes are from, because Mario Wiki doesn't seem to be particularly useful about this. I'm personally curious to know this (it's been bugging me a while), what the music is in the Boo Moon Galaxy when you collect the music notes while riding the Snake Blocks in the second area. You know, these things: www.mariowiki.com/Rainbow_NoteWhen you collect them in the Boo Moon and Throwback Galaxies, what are the pieces of music played?

From Boo Moon Galaxy, it just seems to be notes placed from low to high (unless there's really a sound effect like that in an old game)... From Throwback Galaxy, I can only make out the Undeground Theme from Super Mario Bros.

One is just a scale of notes. One is the underground music from Super Mario Bros. One is the Super Mario World stage theme.
I think those are all the ones I've heard... I don't recall any others.

In that Mario Wiki entry:
Super Mario World Main Theme Yoshi's Island Main Theme
I don't recall these two at all, not even in SMG1...

The notes are the same in both games, and the Super Mario World one is definitely in both. But it's the main overworld stage theme - not the title screen.
Definitely no Yoshi's Island.

The article also mentions Super Mario World Bonus Theme and I'm sure I heard it in Galaxy 2. Was it in Puzzle Plank Galaxy?

Super Mario World music is mostly the same song mixed in different ways. So the Bonus Stage and main stage themes are actually the same.
But because it lacks the distinctive intro to the bonus rooms, I choose to say it's the main stage theme.

I guess you're right, Fry... The fast pace at which you get the notes in this game and the ending note are probably what makes it sound like the bonus stage theme. You guys can compare its appearance in Deep Dark Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy) to its appearance in Puzzle Plank Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy 2). A bit off-topic: now that you mention the intro of the bonus theme, they use a similar one for the bunny chase song in Galaxy 1 and Galaxy 2 if you listen well.

Both sound closer to the Bonus Room to me, but yeah, it's more or less the same melody. All stage music in SMW have that tune embedded in.
Usually, I don't think it's a good idea to quote any wiki (this thread is not a case) as a proof since that does not look like solid proofing ground to me (although I often do that when there's nowhere else to cite something).
It's a shame that those music aren't available for download (I think).

Almost definitely not intentional, but the beginning of the map screen music for World 1 uses the exact same melody from Sonic Unleashed's world map, just at a slower, more relaxed pace. Mario Galaxy 2 mapSonic Unleashed mapNot a cameo, but I thought it was interesting.
