I found this page via Reddit. Displayed on this page are scans from a 1989 Japanese picture book about how video games are made. As you can see, they're working on Super Mario Bros. 3.

It looks pretty cool, although I'd love to see in more detail all the stuff in those offices. I wonder if there are various pieces of concept art/various obscure games and merchandise, etc in the background.
* Looks at larger version of picture*
Oh, there's something to do with Mother in the background! Some form of Mario jumping on a Koopa in figurine form and what looks like a Japanese TV magazine.
But this is pretty much awesome. Sadly not shown... that guy's wife getting angry at him for being late home from work (didn't that inspire the Boo enemy or something?), and some random programmer or designer looking positively traumatised after testing world 8's airship fleet level.

Thanks for the link. Nice photos, I'd like to know what the book is called - and if there is any notable information not covered by English sources yet.
This is the first time I've seen Miyamoto with a cigarette...

This is the first time I've seen Miyamoto with a cigarette... And probably the last time. I doubt he still smokes. Back in the 80's, successful businessmen smoked. Hell, everybody smoked in the 80's! ;D Somebody in the comments posted the site where this link was originally stolen from. But it looks like this site deleted it, along with loads of the other comments. Weird! The other one had loads of close-ups on the photos, identifying various things.

At the site wanderingshadow linked to in the first post, there is now much more information about the book's content, including translations, and a few more pages. I noticed that some of the photos were also used in Nintendo Power's article on SMB3's development back then.

WII SMOKE COMING SOON!
Wow, they were so young. 4 years earlier, they were working on Super Mario Bros. at the age of 23 (Kondo and Tezuka) and 33 (Miyamoto).

The mysterious "SMB4" binder is really intriguing. I mean, it did turn into SMW within a few years, but sometimes I wonder about the early progress of games...
