Alright, so here's the situation. I've recently stumbled upon a game called "Monty on the Run." You know, the Commodore 64 game about the mole running from the law. Well, here's what tripped me out: His whole name is Monty Mole, which is also the name of a Mario species. So tell me, somebody, where does the name "Monty Mole" come from? It's really bugging me, since it seems like it ought to have origins other than "Wanted: Monty Mole." Any ideas?
I get the damnedest feeling this is in the wrong place, so correct me if I'm wrong. It has relevence to Nintendo, so I thought a Nintendo board, here because Monty the attack mole first appeared (and if I'm not mistaken was named as such) on the SNES.

What we have here is something called independent alliteration. Monty Mole. Cartoon animals usually have names like this, so think of all the names that begin 'Mo'...
Monty Mole is also only the English name for the enemy. Of course, it's possible that whoever did the English translation of the name may have played Monty on the Run, a Europe exclusive home computer game. But it seems just as likely to me that the names were developed independently.
