This wasn't supposed to be a justification of game ROMs, and typically I don't start debates on the Internet because I usually lose. If I back up, let's go back to the original topic. I wanted compatibility with old Game Boy cartridges and stuff, but through legitimate adaptors, not through emulation. After all, I used the original Game Boy Color with the bulky Shock N Rock, so I can't say "it ruins portability in the portability department". And most of the time, I like the originals. I'm a bit worried over The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D because of my disappointment of how Super Mario 64x4 (which later became Super Mario 64 DS). SM64DS did have improved graphics, but I wanted a game where I could really play SM64 (I hadn't had a good SM64 experience during that time). Not having that goofy 3D Mario you could play with, not having Mario jump out of that pipe for the first time...that wasn't the way I wanted it to go. And imagine my disappointment when you couldn't play GB/C games, too. I just didn't want to get my hopes up for the 3DS, that's all.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean. But personally, I thought Mario 64 DS was great.

The point was I expected to play the original SM64, but as soon as I found out that wasn't really a straight port with some extras, I dropped it from my consideration list. Anyway, I'm happy that the Nintendo 3DS has an "on/off switch" for 3D. What I'd like to see is the ability to transfer Virtual Console games (NES/SNES) to the 3DS via SD card, as well. And with the resolution more than the original iPhone, I'd like to see some iOS games brought over to the DS (the port of Myst, for instance, is really nice). And if nothing else, I'd love to see homebrew for it. ;D

Mr. Molecule, I believe you have unrealistic standards.

Mr. Molecule, I believe you have unrealistic standards. Not at all, at least coming from someone who has constantly lowered his expectations. I mean, I equated the GBA's 32-bit processor to be "on par with the PlayStation", and thus, get good PS1 ports. Years later, I imagined the Wii to honestly sink the PS3 and win back Sony to Nintendo's side, ending a 10-year period of misery. The SD card idea isn't a bad one, it can easily happen. There's enough buttons to let it work. Nintendo 64, though, probably not. That's where the 3D N64 remakes come in. The iPod/iPhone porting is a little bit unrealistic, yet still plausible. The bad Myst port may put people off for a potential 3DS port, for instance, and Nintendo is a lot harder about development kits than Apple is. And homebrew will very likely be cracked, and it will probably be a continuing battle.

No, the point was that I constantly lowered my expectations over the course of several years. The Wii beating the PS3, the GBA being essentially a handheld PS1...those were unrealistic. Which is more realistic...in 2001 believing there could be a decent port of Final Fantasy VII (from the PS1) on the GBA, or in 2010 believing there could be a decent port of Myst (from the iPhone) on the Nintendo 3DS?

Christ man you're acting like competition between video game companies is a global political issue.

Mr. Molecule... Why did you revive this? Let it die! Your topics rarely foster discussion, they just aggravate people. Can't you just start writing a blog and see if anyone wants to read it?

No need to get angry.
All I did was bring up one of my opinions from 2006, which, the last time I checked, wasn't a crime.
I would hardly consider it bumping either. It was a few weeks old, relatively high on the page, and I wasn't the last poster.
So what is it? Do you want me to take this essentially to the 3DS page, or do you want me to stay out altogether? I'm guessing it's the latter, seeing as the "Karma" is back down to 0 again.
P.S.: I do have a blog. Check the sig. Current posts include some of the things I didn't write as posts.
