So, right, Scott Pilgrim. Who has seen it? TEi's rocking a Scott Pilgrim avatar, so I guess he has. Teev I would imagine would see it. And it has Zelda music in it so this forum's super obsessive weirdos are probably jizzing in their Super Mushroom printed pants over it.
(so as I said elsewhere...) I saw it today, and I really liked it. I bought issue 1 to 5 of the comics ages ago (before 6 was out), but have only just had the time to read issue 1 a couple of days ago, and while I liked the story I found the comic kind of hard to follow (I don't really read comics), so I found this, where I could get the source material I enjoyed with the ability to actually follow what was going on to be great. It was genuinely funny, really cool visually, and an interesting story to boot.
It was all great, really, even the people I went with that either knew nothing about the movie or thought it looked shit but decided to go anyway enjoyed it. I'm gonna have to try and persevere with the comics now I think, but either way I'll be picking up the Blu Ray when it hits. Good shit.
So, right, go see it. Its gooood.

Not sure if I should see it. However, my local movie theater has ridiculously cheap prices for a well-kept, large, first-run theater. $3.50 adult before 6 PM!
Still, I kind of want to hold out to DVD. Maybe.

Actually, I'm probably in the low 1% of the entire population that can't stand Scott Pilgrim. To me it's nothing but pretentiousness. I read the first issue awhile back and everyone just seemed like a bunch of douches (especially Scott).
Though, I'm not gonna lie, the real reason I can't enjoy it is probably because of the extreme amount of jealousy festering beneath my guts. Bryan O'Malley is fucking worshiped as a God by the people who read his comics. His storytelling techniques make absolutely no sense but people treat him as if he's the messiah of comics. Then there's the comic itself. The comic is supposed to appeal to nerds, but Scott's in a band and gets girls like it's nobodies business. Does he even play video games? From what I read he couldn't tell the difference between an NES and a PSP (The NES belonged to his roommate Wallace, I might add).
But I work at a movie theater, so I have to endure everyone I work with telling me how funny a catchphrase of "An epic of epic epicness" is. Also, Michael Cera makes me sick.
*phew*

I agree on the fact that his storytelling in the comics is all over the place (well from the one issue I read), it was really hard for me to follow, personally. But in works in the film version, because when it goes from one scene to a completely different one, you can actually tell it has.
I also see no problem with making a comic 'for nerds' that doesn't actually star a 'nerd', though I'd argue that most nerds are awkward with women and generally a bit over obsessive and think they're great, all of which are traits he seems to share - he doesn't need to be a glasses-wearing, acne-riddled loner teen for nerds to related to him, surely?
Oh and Michael Cera doesn't really seem like he is playing Michael Cera as he did in Superbad, Year One, whatever else where he plays the exact role.
Just see it, you idiots.

I'd totally see a movie involving a homicidal glasses-wearing fucktard intent on getting some girls attention by being an all around creepy guy. But movies where the main character actually continues to fight off a bunch of superpowered douchebags who are still clinging to the possibility that some dumb bitch still cares about them is a little overboard in my book. Also, does Scott not realize that this chick has had way more ex-boyfriends than the average girl her age should have? I mean, really. How long does he think his relationship with her is going to last before the next guy comes along, beats the shit out of him and gathers his soul up to use as cabfare? She's like a fuckin' succubus or something. Now there's something that encourages me to give into hype. Though, there really wasn't any doubt that I was eventually going to see it, considering my friends continue to pester me about why I don't have a 360 and (by proxy) Halo 3, there's no reason for them not to drag me to my own personal hell (work) and force me to see it with their ramblings-on that I can get in for free. Christ, I sound like a douche Somebody lynch me.

Actually, Teev, that comes up in the comic, I think. Ramona and Scott don't last till the seventh volume- or the end of the sixth, for that matter.
Wonder if they left in Ramona's ex-girlfriend in the film? IIRC, she was the last Evil Ex Scott faced. Not that I've read the comics- indiefags have ruined them for me.

(spoilers i guess) Yeah, she's in, but she's not the last. Also any surprise of her being in is ruined by the posters, trailers, etc all showing her

Magically jumping from one relationship to the next? Doesn't getting into one in the first place usually take a shit lot more work than that?

I saw and loved the movie, but people have had it out for me lately, so I'll leave it at that.
One of the best parts of going to the movie was the entire theater giving a collective groan when M. Night Shyamalan's name flashed across the screen for his Devils in the Elevator trailer.

I haven't seen it yet as it's due out here very soon. I have never read the comics, I've never really had a problem with Michael Cera, but really I'm going to watch this movie for one reason:
Directed by Edgar Wright.
I've been following his stuff for years. Sure, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are two very very awesome movies, but his TV work is still amongst my most watched (even if it is on DVD)... Look Around You, Spaced, The Peter Serafinowicz Show... All very nerdy, all very good at mimicking the styles of other mediums or genres.
So I'm looking forward to Scott Pilgrim for that reason.

Actually, the constant video game and other nerd references in this reminded me of Spaced, which in turn reminds me I really should pick up the boxset one of these days. Did I forget to mention Wright in my impressions? Evidently I did, but the quick cutting style of the movie reminded me of his other movies too, even though it was mostly based on the comic I guess.

I only heard about Scott Pilgrim a couple days ago. I looked into it a bit and... I guess Teev already summed up my feelings on what I found out. And the video game references seem way too heavy-handed to me. As though they've been crammed in by somebody who doesn't know that much about them in an attempt to sell the comic to gamers. A band called The Badniks would be a cool reference. A band called Sonic & Knuckles? That's just silly.
