An excuse plot in a comic book? No, it's not, because that is retarded. It's an homage to excuse plots from 8-bit era games, though. I always got a Megaman vibe out of it.

So what you're saying is that the game is automatically better than the movie. That about right? One's a classic of cinema, the other's a (quite wisely selected) scapegoat for the near-death of an industry. And so we reach my point: The game is always an option. But don't make it the first option.

Wait, Scott Pilgrim is E.T.?
Then I've already seen this movie!

I'd comment on that, Kirbs, but it just seems wrong.

Okay seriously, though... I don't think E.T. is the best comparison, since E.T. started as a movie. A better comparison would probably be Watchmen since, like Scott Pilgrim, it goes comic > movie > game.
Now, and I'm going to stress that this is just my opinion, with Watchmen the comic was fantastic, the movie was pretty bleh, but the game was actually surprisingly good. I'm just sayin', since the Scott Pilgrim movie isn't the origin of the franchise, there's absolutely no reason it should be held in higher regard than the game just because it's a movie. Especially since, from what I know of the story, it's much more suited to being a game anyway. Plus, the game retains the art style of the comic, which as far as I'm concerned makes it far more interesting than the movie.
EDIT: In fact, having watched the game trailer... I may actually try it. It looks interesting. Which is the exact opposite of the effect the movie trailer had on me.

Well, of course, but the point wasn't about the transition but rather that...well, it was in response to SS56's comment. Based on context I felt I was justified in believing that he was referring to the movie not mattering. If I was mistaken in his intent I recant my comment.

Well... the movie doesn't matter. Not really. Both the movie and the game are independantly based on the comics and, at least visually, the game is staying truer to them.
Of course, that's not to say the game matters more. Neither of them "matter" at all. They're unlikely to replace the comics in terms of what's considered canon (especially since the movie apparently bombed, making a sequel unlikely).

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised to hear that the movie is doing as poorly as it is. Still, it'll sell like hotcakes when it hits DVD, no questions asked.

Naturally, but I mean in terms of which of the two matters more. As you say, neither does. Also, that's a bit surprising. I would expect, given TEi's reaction, it'd be doing better. Maybe it's just nerdcore.

I played the SP game, really fun. It made me read the comics in order to understand the comic series more, they are good and clever but nothing that really blows my mind. Haven't seen the movie, don't plan to either.
