I don't know where does this thread goes to. It does look like a tradition to put anything non-Nintendo here, but when it's not even on a Nintendo system, then from the viewpoint of NinDB is it 3rd party at all? Anyway... Audio commentary which basically tells you what this is TAS Ending of a ported version, not by original version's author ...What do you think? Actually, looking at this thing, it sounds like NOA is being too aggresive ( as always). In most cases, copycats can't easily defeat Nintendo because of the usually lower product qualities, anyway.

First of all, yes, this would be the correct forum for this topic. In the context of NinDB, if it's not first- or second-party, then it must be third-party. Second, Nintendo apparently doesn't care about whether The Great Giana Sisters infringes its copyright anymore because there was a remake officially released for the DS in Europe.

I'd imagine this would seem much more rip off-ey when it came out than now, since the gameplay of Super Mario Bros. has more or less been codified as the Platformer genre.

It's more than just a platformer though. Pretty much everything in it, title included is basically a copyright-safe knockoff of Mario.

I have that DS remake. Giana is so cute, awrgh. And the game is so simple, yet beatiful. If I just don't say anything about how e-a-s-y it is... (-iwl-) I've gotten to talk with the artist in DA, Pikomi and even with the music composer, Rapturemusic. For me he didn't say much how the game was reborn,, since it was a pretty small company doing the game. (-lwl-) I still asked how music was able to sound retro, and Rapturemusic said it was by the use of a music tracker (like in Amiga games) and to emulate the arpeggio bleeps (which sound like the C64 chip). I was pretty amazed. I'd wanna see Giana facing Mario someday. That would be hilarious.

Y'know from what I've seen this game looks like a pretty fun platformer and now I'm sad I didn't buy it when I saw it lying around for 20something bucks. Can't find it anywhere now
