Zelda in general and the Metroid Prime trilogy.
Played Zelda 2, 3, OoT, MM and WW and with most of them I didn't even get past the first half of the game. The only one I liked enough to reach the final temple (but not beat) is the one everybody hates. Hey if I'm going to be running around a temple totally lost then atleast let me earn EXP and get stronger. Atleast then it isn't a TOTAL waste of time.
Played Metroid 1-3 not too long ago, really enjoyed them. Gave Prime a try, twice, but didn't get anywhere. The areas just looked so bland to me. Also I never knew where I had to go. Running around in a 3D maze FPS style ain't my type of fun.
Also I played one of the Halo's at a school LAN party once. It was okay. Mostly because, like KoopaulSHRIKESWIND (why do I keep making that mistake) said, turning and aiming with a control stick's pretty annoying, especially after playing FPS's on a PC. Once you go mouse and keyboard you can never go back. (and I have to mention the Halo players there were the biggest XBL stereotypes I thought I'd never see. They all wore caps, screamed insults when they died and basically high fived each other when they were PWNING NOOBS in their tank as me and a group of friends tried to figure out the controls every few seconds we weren't dead)

The Halo fanbase is, by and large, fucking retarded. The game itself is a fun, if somewhat now bland, FPS. I love the single players in 2 and 3, though. Not much of a multiplayer gamer, so that falls flat to me. That's the main reason I don't like 1 at all- the single player was shit, after all.

I could show you how badass and unique most people on Halo are online:
Just a few here, but I think you get the idea. ;D

After playing Majora's Mask this year, I found the game to quite frustrating with all it's "guide dang it" sidequests. It's just bloody insane the amount of times you have to be in the right place at the right time for stuff to happen with no hints what so ever.
"Wow, there's a guy dancing on a one of the big rock mushrooms at midnight! Thankfully I happened to be out in the right place at the right time for this to happen!" I swear all the people who say MM is the best Zelda game must have honestly had the guide for the sidequests.
While the 3 day structure felt quite nice in the overworld, it felt goddam annoying/tense when your in a dungeon, and you only got halfway through said dungeon (because of the dungeon item) and it's now the beginning of the final day and now you have to decide . . .
Gee, do I try to contiue on to get to the final boss with 24 hours remaining and most likely fail to so in the process causing you to wasted time doing puzzles/collecting faries and such because they all reset . . .
Or . . .
Fuck it, leave dungeon (with dungeon item) and try to find something else to do for the remaining 24 hours before reseting.
Would have been bloody nice to have the time stop when entering the dungeon or have made smaller/shorter dungeons, some of us here like to take our goddamn time when going through them.
One of the defintie appeals I can see out of MM is that it's one of those games that would be great to run through on a 2nd playthrough . . . because you would know where everything/event happens.
Also yes, Halo is overated. It was so nice to read a review of Reach in a mag today, and find the the quote "Bungie have not always been the best at storytelling." I also keep hearing time and time again, that the expanded universe media (novels and such) of Halo is better than the games.
I also find it depressing the Halo was called "this generation's Star Wars." It was just (last) generations popular console FPS (like Goldeneye/Perfect Dark before it and COD now).
Also speaking of COD, I found it sad so many people are excited for a game, that at this time next year will be forgotten by the newest COD (And the COD after that, and after that and after that . . .)

I think you've just inadvertently hit the nail on the head about the reason that somebody would consider Halo similar to Star Wars - it created a engaging universe from nothing. The various games, books, etc are all part of this. People are clearly engaged in this series (see all the midnight launches at whatnot), much more than previous popular FPSs. For the record I quite like Halo. I'm not much of a FPS person, which I think is why I like it - its almost like a bridge FPS. Its fairly forgiving, actually - you can generally take a few hits, you don't have to hide and snipe, and if you really can't handle the shooting you can generally do ok by meleeing or driving people down or something. I will say I do not like COD, though. I think its just too hard for someone like me who is not adept at FPS - it pretty much just relies on 1 shot sniper kills, I can't handle it very well.

While I won't argue, I'm really genuinely surprised at the amount of negativity towards the Zelda series! I'm even more surprised that the negativity is focused on OoT-MM-TWW in particular, especially given how many other top rated games could be the subject of one's ire.
Perhaps Nintendo really has pumped out too many Zelda games...

Shadrio and Robot, did you guys feel Majora's Mask annoying even after playing the "Inverted Song of Time"? To me that was enough to complete dungeons comfortably or to delimit daily sessions of gameplay. "Wow, there's a guy dancing on a one of the big rock mushrooms at midnight! Thankfully I happened to be out in the right place at the right time for this to happen!" I swear all the people who say MM is the best Zelda game must have honestly had the guide for the sidequests. I'd think your example was easy to spot by oneself ^_^' Though I agree that what you say is true of several other events in the game. All I can say is that TWW's sailing was a lot more annoying than MM's time mechanics to me.

Actually, the Notebook within the game tells you exactly when events happen and which characters are involved with them. The puzzle, tho, is usually trying to figure out how to be present at the event or what to do when you are. I think it's sort of interesting how a semi-realistic portrayal of time tends to disturb most players. I mean, a simple day/night cycle doesn't usually bother people, but time isn't really passing in that case. Every day is the same, and every night is the same. However, when games like Majora's Mask and Shenmue portray actual time passage in which things do change and progress and dates are kept track of, it bothers people for some reason. Personally, I always thought that kind of thing was really cool.

The Bomber Gang's notebook in MM gives you hints by sticking a ! symbol on the timeline of each character's entry, which makes it pretty easy to know when to look for them for new events. EDIT: Beaten to it! Majora's Mask is by far my favourite Zelda game (and one of my favourite games in general) for having the most believably alive world in the series.

IIRC, those marks only appear after first meeting the character in trouble. So finding them adds a bit to the difficulty.
But I still wouldn't call that "discouraging".

The Halo fanbase is, by and large, fucking retarded. This isn't any fair to the Halo fanbase, though, since almost every fandom is composed of people who are late for class. Nintendo franchises aren't excluded from this, and I know many of you are aware of this, but I feel like it's a card worth playing - and we are all familiar with one gaming community or another that almost goes out of their way to spazz out over the dumbest things related to their game of choice. Fans being obnoxious is just something fans do. That said, I will admit the Halo series is one I haven't really bought into. The gameplay, characters and universe are pretty bland - as mentioned before, Star Wars made popular the concept of, well, wars in space, and while Halo doesn't rip off any particular/similar story, it borrows from all of the same tropes, and then some. Still, it's by no means a bad game - it's just average. I won't refuse to play it if my friends ask, and hell, I've been playing a lot of Halo: Reach lately because it's fun playing with people I know...it's just, you know, average. GTA4 is another one I can't find myself getting into. I tried, I really did, but I had gotten accustomed to the colorful, almost surreal nature of San Andreas. GTA4 felt like RockStar had taken everything popular from San Andreas and sucked all of the fun out, making it gunsteel gray/mud brown, and making the physics too real, what with the inability to pull U-turns in cars and people just rolling over the hood of your car when you hit them. Fortunately, Saints Row 2 came along, and it was like the true successor to San Andreas, except way better. One thing I will give GTA4, though, is the characters. Niko Bellic is compelling and believable, definitely the most easily-identifiable of the GTA protagonists (with Claude being mute and Tommy being an unyielding asshole - though CJ was a step in the right direction), and the supporting cast was pretty strong, too. I also liked having the option of choosing to save or kill particular characters, and that's one concept I wish was available for SR2. Metroid: Other M is another one, not like you guys will be all that surprised to hear it. The Final Fantasy series overall, but that's a combination of me disliking JRPGs as it stands and finding every installment of the game to be pretentious. I also blame Squeenix for doing nothing with Cloud and Sephiroth in the thirteen years they've existed; they were cliches back when they were made, and despite the fact that they're still currently in use, they're still cliches now. I'm sure I've got more, but those are the ones to come to mind.

I personally found the new Metroid games very uninteresting. Just got bored way too fast.
The other game I didn't appreciate was Mass Effect 2. Boring level design, terrible combat, no variety killed the fact that it was a great looking game with an interesting story.

Fans being obnoxious is just something fans do. This is very true. Thing is, I would mark the Halo and Call of Duty fandom as being paraticularly bad, main stream examples. It's just due to their multiplayer popularity, really. It attracts twelve year old douches on Live. It's no Sonic fandom, but it's more likely you'll run into a Halo fag than a Sonic fag- and more likely you'll be told to fuck off too. Agreed on GTAIV. I couldn't get into it because I went to the GTA series for over the top, almost parodic fun. GTAIV was just too real. It's not bad, and did a lot of things best in the series. But it just wasn't GTA.

Super Mario Galaxy. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the game in my first with Mario playthrough and then with Luigi. But dammit, when I say that game is overrated, I mean it. Let's look at the positive things: - Planetoid gravitational pull - Awesome soundtrack - Fun the first time - Great level design - etc (Just to the nerds don't go around crying because I didn't include "awesome detail #x about the game") Now for the Negatives for me: - The majority of Nintendo/Mario Fans just won't shut up about the game - So damn simple - After getting all 120 stars TWICE, there is virtually zero replayability for me What's strange is that I've enjoyed NSMB and NSMBW much more than Galaxy, even though they're easier. Maybe it's the fact that NSMB is portable, the awesome that is the Blue Shell and that it has a pretty fun battle mode (I used to enjoy that mode so much with a friend back in school, it would get so damn competitive ) and NSMBW has multiplayer and the fact that I've recently found a Level editor to use (though I'm pretty sure that Super Mario Galaxy also has a level editor for hackers, but I'm pretty sure you need to know how to use 3DMax or some similar program). Or maybe 3D Mario isn't as awesome as 2D Mario for me :/ Shadrio and Robot, did you guys feel Majora's Mask annoying even after playing the "Inverted Song of Time"? To me that was enough to complete dungeons comfortably or to delimit daily sessions of gameplay. Well, to say the truth, I actually found finishing the game a chore, because the I never really had fun during that game. I just played it to have my own opinion about it. Which is pretty much "I really liked the masks but pretty much found everything else dull".
