Alright, 2011’s here. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! So Im wondering what everybody’s favourite and/or most disappointing game of 2010 for Wii, DS or any other platform is. Just curious here. I’ll just recap some of the games I bothered to play this year and announce a winner who’s creators may bask in the glory of my eternal praise: Wii:Super Mario Galaxy 2: Even better then the first one by having a lot of stars per level take place in pretty much entirely new areas. A lot of stages were basically well made obstacle courses from start to finish, no more running around looking for those stinkin' red coins. One of few games I bothered getting 100% completion for… or atleast I thought until they pulled the green star trick. Screw that. Metroid Other M: My post full of nerd rage is still in the Other M thread so I’ll just say this game was definitely the most disappointing 2010 Wii game for me. Sonic Colors: Good mix of 2d and 3d gameplay, awesome speed and fun powerups. And for once the voice acting isn’t balls. Kirby Epic Yarn: Yeah yeah, you can’t die, but in order to get that shiny gold medal it’s still crucial to never ever fall into pits. Fun platformer without the frustration of dieing and starting over again, making this a chillaxing game to play through. Epic Mickey: Basically a 3D platformer filled with fetch quests. I do dig the grim world and that there’s an asshole way of completing most quests. Oswald making a comeback in this game is awesome by itself. Donkey Kong Country Returns: Top notch 2D platformer with a lot of variations between levels. There's always something going on in the background, makes New Super Mario Bros. Wii look pretty dull in comparison. I do wish you could map actions to buttons yourself, it’s hard to time shaking the ‘mote for a roll attack. Maybe not very fair since I’ve only played through 1/3rd of DKCR by now and that game’s, well, top notch so far. But I’m gonna go and pick Super Mario Galaxy 2 as favourite Wii game this year. Haven’t had that much fun playing a 3D platformer since the ol’ Mario 64/ Banjo Kazooie days. DS:Well, since the only DS game I’ve bothered to buy and play this year is Pokemon SoulSilver I guess it wins by default. Good remake of the best game in the series (though the old chiptune music’s still better ) Wiiware:This is hard. Both Megaman 10 and Cave Story are awesome 2D platformers with lovely pixelated graphics and a badass chiptune soundtrack. Megaman 10 has the classic gameplay I know and love and Cave Story apparently had me invested in the characters to the point that certain events actually ruined my mood. But in the end there is but one question: Does Cave Story have Sheep Man? No it doesn’t. Megaman wins.Oh and while I played Sonic 4 on my pretty HD capable Playstation 3 I’m just gonna stick it here as most disappointing Wiiware title this year. Was really hoping I’d be playing this one to the end, but I quickly lost interest thanks to messed up physics, nevermind the recycled Sonic 2 zones. DSiWare:I can’t even buy DSiWare games! Luckily Sega released Dark Void Zero on Steam too and I’ve been having fun playing that little game now and then. Too bad the brainiacs at Sega forgot to add the option to see the bottom screen minimap in the PC version, making it way harder then it should be. Other crap I'm opinionated about:Fallout New Vegas: Glitchier then the previous Fallout, but the factions and the option of needing food and water to survive the wasteland more than makes up for it. Fav non-Nintendo game of the year. Red Dead Redemption: I liked it, but the game didn’t suck me in as much as I thought it would. Probably has something to do with being a bad aimer and dieing all the time. Starcraft 2: Wow, what a corny campaign ending. Multiplayer is still solid, old schoolish but still very strategic. Civilization V: Improved battles by removing stacking, screwed up on every other damn part. Insanely glitchy too. Really disappointing. Super Street Fighter IV: I’m awful at these games, but the way this game is presented with it’s flashy attacks and animated backgrounds still makes it fun to have button mashing contests with a friend. VVVVVV: See, there’s a buttload of indie games I bought via Steam this year, but since I’m a TF2 addicted retard I only really managed to fully play and finish this one. Anyway it's a fun Jet Set Willy style game where you try and find all of your crew members in a big Metroid like world by flipping gravity up and down. Good fun and awesome music too.

Though I haven't played too many different games this year, the games I've enjoyed the most out of have been: Monster Hunter Tri - GOD I love this game. I personally prefer this over any MMORPG out there, but that's just me. The reason why I've been able to enjoy this game so much has been because my cousin also has it, and we'd play online together and pwn noobs and the such. Pokemon SoulSilver - That game not only revived my love for the BEST generation of pokemon, but allowed me to finally be able to complete my Speedy, Head Smashing Aggron. And as we all know, Aggron is the manliest pokemon ever and definately one of my favorites. Aaaand... that's pretty much all that I got this year. Of course, on the 19th I'll be getting DKC: Returns and Metroid: Other M, so I'll finally be able to judge those games myself. And if I ever get the chance, I shall buy Sonic Colors, too... But I’m gonna go and pick Super Mario Galaxy 2 as favourite Wii game this year. Haven’t had that much fun playing a 3D platformer since the ol’ Mario 64/ Banjo Kazooie days. ... ok, NOW I want Super Mario Galaxy 2. The Banjo Kazooie were teh games of my youth, for sure.

If only 2010 games count, easy. Kirby's Epic Yarn.
2010 is a great year for platformer lovers, with DKCR, SMG2, KEY all doing great. Quality-wise, DKCR wins. KEY wins in the creativity department and SMG2 has the best overall feel. I picked KEY because I'm more a Kirby fan than Mario and DK. On DS I got Picross 3D and Mario vs DK 3, but those are kinda minigame-ish.

I actually didn't play too many games that came out in 2010, which means that I have a big backlog of games I want to buy. Of the ones that I did, I'll mention two: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars - My most-played game of the year, but partially because I bought it in March. Still, it's high quality. I enjoyed getting to know the Tatsunoko characters, who mostly turned out to be pretty cool, and the Capcom cast was excellent, as well. Too bad more of you didn't pick it up. We could've had more TvC online get-togethers the way we used to do for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Sin & Punishment: Star Successor/Successor of the Skies - I absolutely adore this game. It's such a great action game. As I mention in my own review, it really deserves to be a higher-tier franchise, and it could be if more people gave it a chance. Gamasutra even listed it as the #1 most under-rated game of 2010. I there's justice, it would be recognized with Ikaruga and Gunstar Heroes as one of Treasure's very best.

Too bad the brainiacs at Sega forgot to add the option to see the bottom screen minimap in the PC version, making it way harder then it should be. Press the M button to make the map appear. Yeah, I was struggling to find out where it was too. And clicking on the forum button on Steam for DVZ just takes you to the Capcom Unity website and all the post tagged with "Dark Void" NO HELP WHAT-SO-EVER! Also Capcom not Sega. Pokemon SoulSilver - That game not only revived my love for the BEST generation of pokemon, but allowed me to finally be able to complete my Speedy, Head Smashing Aggron. And as we all know, Aggron is the manliest pokemon ever and definately one of my favorites. . So . . . Have you ever seen this image?

Well that should make things easier! (dunno why I was thinking of Sega either) Shit, I actually forgot about Tatsunoko VS Capcom It was a fun game it was (though I'm still rather disappointed there's no Speedy Cerviche). It's too bad my consoles have a terrible internet connection, making any form of online multiplayer near impossible. Also I was thinking of buying S&P at release at first, but the main character being some twat with ridiculous clothes and Fry's complaints stopped me and I kinda forgot about it since then. I also thought the reviews in general were only average, but one quick look at metacritic and I see 59 positive reviews out of 60. I played through a few levels of the first game a friend of mine bought via VC and I found it pretty awesome, so maybe I should just go for it.

Dang, I had forgotten TvC. I was really interested in buying that game during the beginning of the year, but not so much now. It's definately on my "If Possible, buy it" list. I had the Aggron set way before seeing that image, but it without a doubt made my year. The last thing I said was definitely based off that image of awesome. If anyone's got any Steam Store games to recommend, recommend away.

It seems Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has been mostly forgotten since the announcement of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. It's sad because TvC is excellent. If my opinion means anything, I think Sin & Punishment 2 is way better than the original, mainly due to far superior controls and level design. It's not too hard to find it for a budget price now, so I say go for it.

If anyone's got any Steam Store games to recommend, recommend away. For about 13 more hours (since this post) the Steam Store has 75% off games from the Half Life series ( it's 85% off if you own either L4D 1 or 2!) I can vouch for HL2 and it's episodes for being quite really good (great action, interesting physic puzzles, good storytelling) HL2 Deathmatch . . . it's good but it needs more people playing it. EDIT: HL2 DM can be possibly obtained for free depending on what graphics card you own apparantly.
AaaAaaaA: A reckless disregard for gravity is $2.50 (75% off) (for the next 13 hours) it quite a nice original indie game about base jumping in first person. Here's a trailer. Also World of Goo is still an awesome game.

2010 has been a good year for gaming for the most part. Getting knocked into unemployment for a month sucked (and it's looming halfway through January again, so I'm hoping that I can find something else quickly), and our house problems are a pain, but gaming has been great! Games that came out this year...
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom - A fine return to the Versus series, although Zero is too overpowered (I'm no master, but even I can unleash some massive combos with him). A lot of fun, and I like the Tatsunoko fighters a bit more than Marvel's, I must admit. A great game to start the year off, though.
Dragon Quest IX - Easily my game of the year, and one of the finest games I've ever played. I adored this game so much. My wife has her own copy and was making pretty good headway through it, too.
Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals - I haven't quite finished this one yet, but I think Neverland did a fine job reinventing the core of Lufia II into its own action RPG, making it one of the more beautiful games for the system and delivering a mostly solid gameplay experience. It's a little repetitive (in revisiting locales and the otherwise engaging combat frequency), but on the whole it's a great game.
Data East Arcade Classics - A solid, if a little sparse, retro collection of Data East's games. It's missing some notables (Karnov, Karate Champ, Atomic Runner, Fighter's History, etc.) but what is here is mostly good stuff. I had a better time than I expected, which is a massive plus. ^_^
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - So far, this takes Mario Galaxy's awesomeness and makes it better. I got a little burned out by the first, but I'm really taking to this one, so I consider it the superior of the two.
Kirby's Epic Yarn - A charming-as-hell platformer that disregards a lot of Kirby's past but manages to not tarnish the character or the license. The arts-and-crafts graphic style shines, and the Sonic-esque collection of beads is a fine tweak to the gameplay, and the removal of death in favor of losing precious beads was a smart move. I'm greatly relishing this.
I think that's what I've played that's come out this year. I've had other accomplishments (I'll get to them later), but on the whole gaming has been wonderful.

I'm definitely going to say DKCR. That game just was... the best platformer I own on the Wii. Sorry NSMBW, but you can't compare to this game.

The only complaint with DKCR I have would be that I encountered a glitch where I get sucked up from a rope into a barrel while jumping. The game counts DK as having jumped away, but the camera is focused on the cannon that I couldn't do anything. I didn't want to exit the level at the time to lose all the collectables. Other than that, yeah, well done for that game. As much as I like 2010 gaming, I hate it to have been unable to buy some games. Come on Nintendo, I'm waving some shiny cash and you don't want it!?

I've picked up a fair few games this year, and I'm pretty sure Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the best of the best. It was non-stop awesome from beginning to end, and it put the already-excellent first game to shame.
Other than that, I did enjoy DKCR a hell of a lot, and me and WarioWare DIY were inseparable for a few weeks.
I also played a crapton of Reflect Missile (Trajectile)... which was released last November, but I didn't pick it up till earlier this year. One of the best things I have ever downloaded, and the most love my DSi has seen to date (even including Ace Attorney Investigations and Super Scribblenauts).

Wii
For me it has to be DKCR, even though I'm only on World 4 at the moment. It truly is a masterpiece, even if I find those rocketbarrel levels a bit tough.
DS
Although Pokemon SoulSilver is good, I think my favourite has to be Ace Attorney Investigations for being true to the other Ace Attorney games, but at the same time doing it's own thing. And you get to play as Edgeworth, which is awesome.
