So, I was going through an archived thread from /vp/ and came across a bunch of shit you guys would be interested in. Here we go!
Source if you wanna wade through the bullshit
- Rhydon was the first Pokemon created. Nidorino and Gengar existed before as characters in the Capsule Monsters manga, so they were technically the first designed.
- Mew was the first Pokemon ever trademarked.
- Gold and Silver were once called "Pokemon 2".
- It was Miyamoto's idea to split each generation into two versions for maximum profit.
- Some of Slowbro's Pokedex entries state that if the Shellder is removed, it reverts to Slowpoke. In other words, it de-evolves.
- FR/LG has an anti-cheat feature where hacking in Mew would cause it to not listen. This is not in any of the DS games, however. To elaborate, Mew ignores every order you give it, regardless of what badges you earned. Also, the same thing happens with a hacked Deoxys.
- Magneton is made by three Magnemite, yet weighs 10 times more. Magnemite weighs 13.2 pounds, but Magneton weighs 132 pounds.
- Every Spinda has a unique pattern of spots. In-game, there are exactly 4,294,967,296 possible outcomes (Not counting shiny).
- Spinarak was created in a children's Pokemon design activity in the American Trading Card Game League.
- No Slowpoke has ever been seen using an attack in the Anime, despite showing up multiple times.
- The move Kinesis, a signaturete move of the Abra evolution line, was impossible to naturally learn, as only Kadabra could learn it, and at a level before it evolved.
- In G/S, Full maps exist for the Cinnabar Island Lab, indicating it was to be playable at some point.
- Giovanni is the only criminal boss not to endanger a legendary pokemon with his exploits.
- In R/S/E, there are several remixes of G/S tracks that are still in the game's data, but are not heard during normal gameplay.
- Oak was intended to be a trainer in RB. Leftover data says that Oak would use Tauros, Exeggutor, Arcanine, Gyarados, and the third Starter.
- The original Pokemon prototype was built on a NES. This was done due to the NES having similar physical power to a Game Boy.
- The original Sugimori design of Persian showed it with pink inside its ears which was kept in the anime, but the games show its ears as grey. Shiny Persian's were given pink ears though.
- In G/S/C, if you use the radio inside the Unown Temples you could pick up an extra station and hear them making eerie sounds.
- Female trainers in-game flirt with the main character in the same way regardless of gender.
- Originally, Pikachu had a dark patch on his stomach and was a lot chubbier. This was changed to make him easier to work with in the anime.
- Azurill can change genders when it evolves.
- Rotom is inspired by Pulseman, a platformer made for the Sega Genesis. It was created by Game Freak.
- Taking Togepi to Cerulean Gym and talking to it in HG/SS references Misty's Togepi.
- In the Japanse version of the anime, Misty had genuine romantic feelings for Ash. 4Kids edited out altogether in the English version.
- The only Dragon type attack in Generation 1 was Dragon Rage. Dragon Rage always does 40 damage. Therefore it was impossible to deal Super Effective Dragon type damage in G/R/B/Y.
- When the show was first being planned, Ash was originally going to be given a Clefairy. It was switched out at the last minute with Pikachu.
- Latias and Blaziken were once one Pokemon.
- This is the original Pokemon patent.
- Tohjo Falls, aside from being an anagram of Johto, also implies its location as between Kanto and Johto.
- Ecruteak City in G/S/C and the Blue table in the first Pokemon Pinball game have the same background music. The only difference is the tempo of the song. It's much faster in Pinball.
- Arceus' Theme Music is actually the sounds the Unown produce.
- The trade in R/B/Y where you trade a Spearow for a Farfetch'd is a reference to the Japanese saying, "Kamo ga negi wo shotte kuru (é´¨ãŒè‘±ã‚’èƒŒè² ã£ã¦æ¥ã‚‹), or in English 'a duck comes bearing green onions'." It's a reference to how Spearow for Farfetch'd seems like a good trade because you can't catch it in the wild, but then you realize that a Fearow would have been MUCH more useful.
- Karate Chop, Gust, Bite, and Sand-Attack all have had their type changed in Gen 2.
- In GSC and HGSS, there is a foreign rocket grunt with an accent who vows to return to his country and restart Team Rocket after being defeated. This grunt has an English accent in the original Japanese versions.
In Black and White, an NPC can be encountered in a house inaccessible until Winter. The NPC claims to have once been a member of Team Rocket who returned to Isshu to rebuild the organization but gave up and started a family instead. - Depite still having its HM status during Generation III, Cut is never required to complete Ruby and Sapphire.
- Rock Smash is the only move to be a TM, become a HM and then revert back to being a TM again.
- All fully evolved starter Pokémon can learn Rock Climb except for Charizard.
- As of generation 5 water has been paired with every type but fire.
