Here a topic where we discuss our personal opinions on Pokemon design. What are some of your favorites? Which one do you absolutely hate? Here are my most hated designs: Seviper This guy has way to many zigzags and spots and whatzits splattered all over it. Lunatone and Solrock You'll hear me say this a lot but I hate these soulless red eyed rocks. They don't look cute, they don't look tough, they don't look cool, they don't look silly. There's nothing redeemable about them. They don't even look like Pokemon if you compare them to the first and second generation. Baltoy and Claydol Great more lifeless looking alien Pokemon. When I first saw Claydol I couldn't even figure out where it's face was... If it has one! Lileep and Crawdily Ugh just look at these penis tentacles monstrosities! These Metroid rejects have a horrible color scheme that reminds me why I hate the third gen! We get these weird desaturated hues that are on almost every Pokemon in that generation. Yeah yeah I think we get the idea of what I hate: Etc etc... There it's easy to pick out what you hate than picking out what you like. I'll need to think about that. I'll get back to you.

ITT: We list 3rd Gen Pokemon, apparently. This mofo here is, hands down, the worst Pokemon design ever. Its just so goddamn lazy. Its the previous evolution with a couple of bits. Don't say 'wah wah thats what [x] is to [y] as well' because I will stab you in the eye. I don't like this dude either. If it was an evolution of Luvdisc I'd be more accepting, since it would need to look somewhat like that, but, as it is, it has no reason for looking like an admittedly already average looking, forgettable Pokemon. Looks like a cheap knockoff of Lickitung. Could almost pass as a pre-evolution for Lickitung, maybe (why does his tongue get smaller as he evolves?). Yawn. And on a different track, these guys: Nothing wrong with the designs at all, but I really don't think they fit well with their evolution lines - for the Poli line the evolution throws off the balance of the line (one side remains as a tadpole the whole way through, the other suddenly becomes fully grown), while Bellossom doesn't fit well with its line either.

On Seviper: Not sure which zigzag are you talking about, but the purple one is assumed to be a scar symbolizing the feud with Zangoose (which has scars too). On Lunatone and Beldum: you like Magnemite and Magneton? Is a white sclera much better for some reason? On Alomomola: I can only say I despise Luvdisc itself. If Alomomola were an evolution of Luvdisc, I'd be more accepting of Alomomola and Luvdisc altogether As for me... Pokémon I've hated in the past include: - Togetic: That thing is too tiny and frail-looking. I'm glad it evolves now. - Dunsparce: Horrible... eyes, yes! - Girafarig: Too short to be named after giraffes. - Donphan: See Girafarig. - Azurill: Why was this guy necessary? Because of Igglybuff? - Spoink: Funny, but ugly. - Luvdisc: The idea is cute, but it was drawn too plain. It's also a bad Pokémon in the game. - Garchomp: I'm still not liking it for some reason. Sorry, I know many people are fans of it. Gible is very cute, though; just watch the anime to fall in love with it. - Drapion: Horrible. I can see why it's named the Ogre Scorp Pokémon. - Servine, Serperior: that's not how you do it... Seriously, I'm starting to like Samurott and Pignite, but these serpents... lol. Maybe the anime will make me like them in the end; who knows. - Gigalith: The new Drapion. - Klinklang: Same reasons as DiU. - Beheeyem: I'm still not fond of the idea of a grey evolving into a disguised grey. I'm more of a battler, though, so I've come to love many of these Pokémon with time, namely Dunsparce, Donphan and Drapion. Sometimes grotesque = awesome, just like Wario.

I have a soft spot for goofy looking Pokemon so I don't mind Lickylicky that much, its when they try to be too serious or realistic that bother me.
Anyway I'm going to have to say that one of my all time favorite Pokemon designs is Jigglypuff. Yup it's simple, cute, identifiable, and expressive.
Well rounded design. hurr hurr hurr...
Incidentally you don't downrep people for their tastes in Pokemon.

I'll just post my favorite and least favorite of each gen... I looooooove the Abra line. Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam, all expertly designed. Cartoony yet reformed, fantastic But Exeggcute and Kangaskhan piss me off. I mean, Kangaskhan is designed cool, but these Pokemon have no right o continue existing after the introduction to breeding. Okay, so I hatch an egg and out pops...six...other eggs. Or how about an egg that gives me a Pokemon WITH A FREAKING BABY ATTACHED! Who created this baby?! What happened in that egg?! Ugh. Gen 2 gave us Crobat and Wobbuffet. Crobot rules because he made training Zubat worthwhile, also Crobat's design is just way too awesome. And Wobbuffet is a Pokemon whose entire being is in his tail. HIS TAIL! The "body" we see is just a decoy punching bag...so creative and cool. Honestly, the only Gen 2 design I don't like would probably be Chinchou...but Lanturn's cool so I guess that balances out In Gen 3 I like Wailord and Tropius. That's about it. Now...where to begin about the ones I hate... The starters look like shit, Linoone looks like a carbon copy of Furret, Silcoon and Cascoon can lick my balls, Tailow and Swellow might as well be the same Pokemon, Spinda is totally gimicky and worthless, Crawdaunt is too complicated, Sharpedo looks like he was sliced in half and that annoys me, etc., etc... Gen 4's fossil Pokemon were cool. Gave us a good distinction between attack and defense specialties. I also have a hard time choosing Poke's from Gen 4 I don't like since they all pretty much rocked. I suppose Carnivine has no reason to exist. Finally, Gen 5 gave us the Vanillite line, which I thank every day for. I finally have a useable AWESOME ice Pokemon. But then there's Cryogonal. Damn...worthless Cryogonal.

Just to prove that there's no agreement on this issue, I almost entirely disagree with every single one of you. Baltoy and Claydol are genius designs. A dreidel that evolves into a golem... I also LOVE Lileep and Cradily. I hate the boring Pokemon designs but I love the goofy and weird ones. Taillow and Swellow suck and I also hate the Pidgey line. Give me a Farfetch'd or Dodrio any day. Blitzle... zzz. But Exeggcute? Spoink? How can anyone not LOVE these goofy designs?! Pokemon fans are miserable gits

Basically a Pokebash topic? I'll link to artwork not to murder Da Robot's internet DugtrioWhat's worse than Diglet? Three diglets MedititeI like it's evolution and the fact it's a Hindu fighting type, but he still has a big onion for a head ManetricThing looks like it's made of fucking plastic. Go hang out with Battle Cat or something Totally not PikachuNo Nintendo, you won't get away with making 2 gimmicky Pikachu knock-offs. These cuntsDoes anybody even remember these two? So bland and worthless (also the RSE dex showed they were the size of flies. What kind of dumbass starts training flies to take on the elite 4) BlazikenHey designers, you forgot to give this guy feet ClaydolWhat the hell man? I'm still seeing a giant owl head done in the style of this and it's freaking me out. Registeel and his boring ass gangBoring ass golems with dull designs DrapionAccordion scorpion Pokemon MagmortarFire duck evolves into a bloated blackface with cannon arms RhyperiorRhyhorn was pretty cool, then it evolves into this fat, plated baldie. And why did it lose teeth? MusharnaSomebody rip that umbilical cord out of his head already Weather demons striking a poseThese probably wouldn't even piss me off as much if the poses of their sprites were different. Hell even a slight change of angle like with this artwork would suffice. The sprites are some lazy RPG enemy recolour shit. Eitherway these are still some dull legendaries As for those that I like, basically most come from gen2. Not sure why, guess it's a good mix of goofballs and monsters actually resembling the animals they're based on.

BlazikenHey designers, you forgot to give this guy feet Um, it does have feet. They're just obscured by those fuzzy parts on the bottom of its legs.

Myeah true... but especially with the small sprite it's the first thing that always springs to mind whenever I see it. Doesn't really help it's floating around in a fetal position. BlazikenHey designers, you forgot to give this guy feet Um, it does have feet. They're just obscured by those fuzzy parts on the bottom of its legs. I'm pretty sure that's his hand in the artwork. Maybe there's an clear anime screencap somewhere but until then, stumps.

Its in-game footprint has three toes, and I think they're more visible in side games like the 3D battle ones or the Ranger series. And yes, anime >> everything

Baltoy and Claydol Great more lifeless looking alien Pokemon. When I first saw Claydol I couldn't even figure out where it's face was... If it has one! To be fair, they are based on Dogu statues from ancient Japan. That's pretty much what they looked like.

Lots of Pokemon are based off of ugly looking things but that doesn't mean they have to make them look EXACTLY like that.

They've kinda already established that they want each generation to be completely different from each other in their own ways. They're all mixed bags - Some good 'mons and some bad in each.
Furthermore, if there's something that the later generations do get better at, it's type combos.
I hated in Gen 1 how Grass always had Poison attached. Rock always with Ground, too few Ice types, etc. Gen 2 and onwards use them a lot more interestingly and effectively.
