Another thread for my favorite series! A new cameo: In the stage "The Dazzles" the Play-Yan stick-man appears hanging from a star when the player does well. Sadly I wont be able to get any screenshots, using the flicking motion on an emulator is pretty much impossible The new one can at least be seen in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKzV_mVLJw8&feature=related, at 0:32. On another subject, the game includes several cameos of characters from the first game. What is required of an in-series cameo?

In-series cameos are tricky. I suppose you could look at it like this: If the game has an ensemble cast (like Rhythm Heaven, WarioWare or Ouendan) and the returning character is clearly only making a guest showing and has nothing to do with the game, then it's a pretty safe bet that it would count as a cameo. If a character returns, but they're playing a main role in the game, then they're just a returning character. Although if they're returning after a long hiatus, then it may be notable. These are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. I've gotten pretty far in Rhythm Heaven DS, but as I didn't get far in the GBA version I don't actually know who's a returning character. You may have to provide as much detail as you can

Major roles (not cameos?): • One of the cats from Clapping Trio returns as the teacher in Glee Club • Vegetables from Rhythm Epilation returns as the crops in Crop Stomp • Dancers from Space Dance returns as ping-pong players in Rhythm Rally • Karate Joe from Karate House returns in Karate Man • One of the marching girls from Marcher returns as the commander in Shoot-‘Em-’Up 2 • Samurai from Iai Slash returns in Samurai Slice (endless game)
Cameos (in-game) • Space Bunnies can be seen in the moon during Shoot-‘Em-’Up sections in Remix 2 • Freeze Frame: Characters from Space Dance, Tap Dance, Clapping Trio and Rap Men appears in the crowd halfway through the game. Ghosts from White Apparition, white mouse from Stealth Rat, and both ninjas from Ninja sometimes appears in the pictures • Play-Yan man (from Night Walk) appears hanging from a star when doing well in The Dazzles • White penguins from Show Time sometimes appears in the photos in the Freeze Frame sections of Remix 3 • The characters in the Space Soccer sections are wearing the Clapping Trio’s wigs in Remix 6.
Cameos (images following result screens) • Remix 2: Boy from Toran and Porin (Try Again, OK, Superb) • Remix 5: Producer from Live Shows (Superb) • Remix 7: Little girl from Bon Dance (OK, Superb) • Remix 8: Ninjas (Try Again, OK, Superb) and Sensei (Try Again) from Ninja Looking again, I'm not sure it's the same ninja and sensei... • Remix 9: Play-Yan man (from Night Walk) (Try Again, OK, Superb), UFO from Air Batter (Try Again, Superb) and Space Bunnies (Superb)
Other Cameos • The style of Built to Scale is the same as in Poly-Rhythm from the first game • Rappers from Rap Men appears on the poster for Battle of the Bands • Using the Phone toy, the player can call secret numbers to hear short sound-clips: - Music and Sound Effects from Iai Slash - Music and Sound Effects (translated outside of Japan) from Rap Men • Credits icon from Wario Ware Twisted (or do they have a shared origin?)
Cameos marked in blue color are not only in-series (though at least Play-Yan man deserves to be mentioned as having a major role in the first game as well).
I hope I got all of them, but it's difficult to know seeing as many characters from the first game are humans, and therefore difficult to recognize. Many cameos are also hidden very well, and looking through all results screens not only requires time, but extreme skills... I'll post as many screenshots as I can get later today.

You're a rhythm master! ;D
I'll say now, I'm not sure all of these similarities count as cameos, but a few of them may count. I don't want to go mad on minutiae. But thanks for being so thorough! ;D

No problem! And to be honest I wasn't expecting everything to be counted as cameos, the list is just as much for my own curiosity. That being said, just counting some of them as cameos might be a bit odd, maybe it would be better just to use the Play-Yan and Space Bunny cameos on the site. I trust you to find a way that works out though. Regarding the credits icon (last image), do you know anything about it? All credits icons in the WarioWare series uses similar motifs, and so do both Rhythm Heaven games. Is there any story behind that icon, or is it only because they have the same developers and they chose to use the same icon in both series? It's difficult to say whether or not it is a cameo without that knowledge. EDIT: Managed to get a screenshot of Play-Yan man's first cameo!
