Besides in Galaxy 2 you get absolutely nothing out of it anyway. I think it depends on the player's preferences. Some people can have fun just making Mario around in circles, or something. You could collect star bits during the ending sequence if you wanted to, but the interactivity is just there for random "fun" overall. (Also, pestering a depowered shrunken Bowser was fun, & funny I felt personally.) If you don't wanna do it, you can just put the controller down, and sit back if you want, and watch the credits. Same with NewSMBWii. And yeah, Paper Mario's (N64) ending was pretty good to, but almost to simular to Super Mario RPG's, I felt. (Wich isn't really bad, sense that game had a great ending to.)

Well, Galaxy 2's credits were essentially the same as Mario 64's. The worlds and characters were showcased. The only difference was that you could control Mario at the same time. Hm I guess so. But it was just a frame of that world. Flyiing around it would have been pretty cool. Here's my Mario Galaxy 2 ending. Mario and Peach holding hands and flying over the different worlds waving to the people living down below until they reach home. Its simple but it would be so cute and charming I would love it. Can't you just picture them flying across the Galaxy together it reminds me of something...

No offense, but I don't think I would've liked that kinda ending as much as the actual SMG2 one personally. (As much as I love that Disney movie.) I bet the MarioXPeach fan 'shippers would love it though. (No offense ment to anybody if we have any people like that here. Personally, I prefer Mario & Peach as "just friends," or have their relationship remain unspecified.)

Oh c'mon its pretty much the only one that's actually true.
Also they are seen flying holding hands in Galaxy 1 so I'm not making that up. Look at 0:50
I must say its a nice sequence before and after the credits!

I wouldn't have liked that for a different reason. Because it would have been boring. I may have just been running and jumping, fighting turtles and all manner of crazy things to rescue a Princess... but at no point was I playing in order to reunite Mario and Peach so they could express their eternal love.
I was spurred on by collecting shiny things!
Mario soaring through the galaxy with her is a romantic image, sure, but there's no build-up to that kind of relationship throughout the game. A romance sub-plot with no build-up is awful. At most, I expect Peach to kiss Mario on the nose or make him a cake (she does). Save the romance plots for the RPGs where they can be built-up to.
Sudden change of subject...
One thing I miss from endings is the enemy roll call. They were all the rage back in the 16-bit era, but they've died a premature death. Especially with modern instruction manuals being less about supplementing the game and more about pages and pages of smallprint about calibration and wireless internet, you'd think this would make an in-game comeback.
I think it's long overdue! Bring on the enemy roll call!

They should bring back the enemy roll call in modern FPS games.
This German soldier? His name was Hans. Here is a picture of him with his wife and three kids. You killed him. You monster.

This makes me think of this one issue of Grant Morrison's comic The Invisibles, wherein we see the life of a man who was shot many, many issues ago, in the balls, at point blank range, and died. Great issue. What I'm trying to say is, this is an amazing idea and needs to be done just to make people feel like assholes.

It's a shame that game manuals and most games themselves don't list down every enemy in the game like they used to. Even so, there are some games that have in-game enemy glossaries (in pause menus and all). Instruction manuals are definitely getting a lot more useless by the minute. There's another part where I liked Star Fox 64 3D, showing the boss names on the screen when they show up this time. They didn't appear in the original game though; While their names were already known, they were only shown in the obscure-ass SF64 Player's Guide.

I miss the cast/enemy role-call endings to. Super Mario Bros. 2, SMWorld, Ninja Turtles: The arcade game, A Link to the Past, (or at least with the NPCs) the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, ect. all had them.
I also kinda miss manuals having at least 1 or more pages dedicated to showing you some of the enemies you'll encounter in the game. I especially loved the ones in the SMB2 as well as the Zelda 1 & 2 game manuals that featured an artwork reprasentation, and an in-game sprite comparison of each enemy or item in the game. I loved those comparisons, but sense graphics are so "good" now, there's no need for those comparisons unfortunately.
I guess I kinda miss the "expressionism" charm that 8-bit (and some 16-bit) games had. Some 8-bit games you could interpritate the graphics how ever you wanted.

Sorry to bump this but I am curious to hear what your favorite era of end credits were.
Mine was N64 era. What's yours?

By far it would have to be the early 90's.
Many of my favourite credit sequences are those that appeared on the original Game Boy. I never fail to be impressed by the likes of Super Mario Land 1 & 2, Wario Land, Donkey Kong, Link's Awakening...
This was also, of course, the SNES era, where we have A Link to the Past, Yoshi's Island, Star Fox and Donkey Kong Country, which all had staff rolls that presented games more like movies, rather than the games that had come before.
Seeing any of those ending screens sends me screaming back to childhood and birthed a Fry that cherished games, rather than just played them lots.
Today, epic endings with wonderful musical scores are pretty typical. Back then they were brand new. That's not to say they're worse now, but when you expect a black "CONGLATURATION" screen and instead get a moving piano score over a 16-bit animation of - say - the Stork flying into the rising sun, the juxtaposition made it stand out.
