So I've got into the habit of visiting different cities for StreetPass Quest which I neglected, and somehow today I got 6 StreetPass hits in one day when visiting Lincoln city (since I'm starting uni there next Monday), which for me seems a lot, since before I've only gotten one or two hits recently or sadly none at all. I thought those 6 hits would be partially due to to the two Pilotwings Resort Nintendo 3DS kiosk demos at a Game shop (if you turn wireless on them, you can apparently register them even when they are open), but although there are two Miis playing Pilotwings Resort, they weren't registered as playing 'Pilotwings Resort Demo'. There was a Mii called '00nine' playing Pilotwings Resort, which is a slightly unusual username, but it could just be a coincidence. The other Mii playing Pilotwings is called 'Reshi'.
There's a retro game shop at Lincoln called Gotham Games which sells older generation Game Boy/Gamecube games, etc., which may be a reason why it might be appealing for StreetPass. I saw a Zelda Game & Watch there for sale today(!) and another not directly Nintendo related Game & Watch game but they were both £45.00, so I didn't bother because I only went there to get a battery replacement on my Pokémon Crystal, which they said they can do).
Does anyone else know any good places to get hits, except from places like capital cities?

I do not live in one of those "Nintendo regions" (JP, NA, EU, AU...), and my best bet here would be railroads. Even so, it's not like I could get more than 2 for each day, and they only show up once every 3 or 4 days.
But I'm all the way fine with that, since the only thing needed for StreetPass Mii Plaza is to get to start an initial piece of puzzle for each pic. The other parts, including the missing pieces of a pic you already have pieces of, and the whole fight-for-some-hats thing, can be done by using the coins.
You get 10 coins each day, and you get to hire 10 heroes (the maximum you can have at a time) every two days. Those heroes come in levels 1 and 2 variants, which is way better than meeting complete stranger Miis, who are always at level 1 unless you happen to meet someone you have met before. And the hired heroes definitely do a more efficient job.
You don't have to worry about the puzzles either. By now, there are some dedicated players around who already have all puzzle pieces unlocked. If you happen to meet 6 of those people, you're good to go. Just be patient and you'll eventually finish the game.

Thanks nocturnal YL. Yeah, previously I would only walk around my local town, where I would only get one StreetPass hit or so, or most commonly just none at all, though I've always ended up walking far more than 1k steps with my 3DS since about last week, (which has taken me to about the 3rd floor of Mirage Tower on the first run-through) so that does me fine, and is definitely more efficient than meeting Miis. I've never been keen on cheating and just e.g. shaking the 3DS and setting the day forward like some people do, and like the idea of meeting other people's Mii's.
I was lucky enough to start a piece on each puzzle, before that I only had pieces on Metroid and NSMB Wii, but it's a bit weird to think that a piece on the other 5 puzzles could be started today. A few were from dedicated players, e.g. one person had all 7 puzzles completed, and another person with a Kirby hat had just a completed Kirby puzzle, and some other puzzles about half done.
Regarding the 'Met via Invitation' Mii's', are those only Mii's which you would meet when you're playing a game at the same time? (the operations manual says met via Wireless Play, but it wasn't completely clear)

If I go into London, I'm guaranteed to come back with a few StreetPass hits, but round here I can go weeks without seeing anyone, even if the town centre is mad busy!
I went to a gaming event a few weeks ago and managed to get at least one tile for every picture (as well as completing two of them). I use my Coins for StreetPass Quest at the moment. I'm on my second playthrough to get the remaining hats. I'll finish the pictures later. By then there'll be more stuff to spend those coins on.
So yes, major cities, gaming events (expos, cons) are your best bet until Nintendo figures out how to sell the 3DS to people (answer: games).

Bah where I live there's no one. It doesn't help the none of my friends care to own one of these things.

In the University I'm at, there's quiet a few people with 3DSes. Anime convention and gaming conventions are also great for getting hundreds of Mii Street Passes.

I don't think I'll find 3DS users even in anime conventions over here... But I hope this changes soon

The only time I seem to get any StreetPass tags is whenever I bring my 3DS to school. I usually score one or two tags at a time. It's not much but it's something... Wouldn't airports be a good place to get StreetPass tags? I'm planning to travel sometime during the summer...

I get 5-10 people everyday at my school, but they're all the same people. At least I have a set army of level 7 heroes.
Living in NYC I have it easy when it comes to streetpass tags. If I wanted a few extra sometimes I head on over to a gamestore. Sometimes when I'm bored I just walk around to find people I haven't streetpassed with. When I went to comic-con, I didn't have a 3DS but my sister did, and greeting a constant influx of people was what she did to pass time on the huge lines. I myself did something like that in the early release event for Kid Icarus, and going over to Nintendo World is a guaranteed way of getting streetpass tags.
And even with all that, I know that a group of people have organized a "streetpass NYC" thing. I'm not sure about the details, but if that exists then chances are there might be something similar for other locations.

Wouldn't airports be a good place to get StreetPass tags? I'm planning to travel sometime during the summer... In theory they should be great, but on my last trip through London Heathrow airport I got no streetpasses at all. Then I failed to get any on the way back because I'd turned the wireless off for the flight and forgot to turn it back on
