I want to go to a forum where I can talk really REALLY indepth about Mario and go all fanboy. Unfortunately I don't know any Mario forums that are good. I look around and I see fan communities that are full of numbskulls who know very little and still ask dumb questions like: "Is Birdo a boy or a girl?"
I want a really Mario-smart community that knows as much as me about the Marioverse and is willing to talk about the most minor things from the series in great detail. Kind of like how the DKVine is with Donkey Kong.
Does anyone know of a place like that?

This place is pretty cool, I go there all the time. In all seriousness, most fan communities have there fair share of dumb numbskulls. Can't think of one off the top of my head that is completely devoid of the buggers. But hey, it's the internet.

Ultimately, even if you found one that was absolutely devoid of idiotic regulars, you're always going to get dumb questions from noobies who may or may not stick around. Questions are by nature ignorant. It's the intent of the asker that determines whether or not it's stupid, too. A good forum has a FAQ. Look for those.

What the hell? I thought we were all pretty knowledgeable about the Marioverse...! Or are we just not good enough for ya? >

Yeah but this board is Nintendo-centric. I think Koopaul wants a forum that's entirely Mario-centric.
Maybe I can solve this with a topic...

I want to go to a forum where I can talk really REALLY indepth about Mario and go all fanboy. Unfortunately I don't know any Mario forums that are good. I look around and I see fan communities that are full of numbskulls who know very little and still ask dumb questions like: "Is Birdo a boy or a girl?" The problem you'll find is that no place exists that meets your exacting criteria. I was a huge Mario fanboy. Hell, I used to transcribe episodes of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show for the Super Mario Bros. HQ, and even wrote fanfiction and comics back in the day. I went to see the movie in cinemas, and even kinda enjoyed it at the time ( ) I wrote game guides for SMBHQ, and my old fanart from 12-14 years ago still shows up on Mario fansites if you look hard enough! I love Mario through and through, and have a very high level of knowledge of the series and skill in the games. However... and this is the problem... I reached a point where I don't want to hear anybody "going all fanboy" about Mario, whatever that entails. As my appreciation for the series has matured with time and knowledge, my appreciation for foaming-at-the-mouth fanboy communities has diminished. Like others have said, this forum contains a high collective knowledge of the Mario series, and it even has a fanart/fic forum if you want to use it. But I can't promise any of us will join in on fanboy raving... We've been fanboys for far too long and seen far too much, and now some of us just want to settle down with Super Mario 3D Land, 100% it in a couple days, and enjoy it on its own terms without coming up with fanfiction or speculation.

If you can't find a community . . .
. . . Have you thought about making your own?

Ha, it's funny. I think most, if not all of us have been on forums like you've mentioned in the past, but settled here. This is sort of a niche community; we can be pretty passionate depending on the subject, but as for speculation...we've seen it all.

No one mentioned the Mariology forums yet? Really? This place is the epitome of a nerdy Mario community.

I suppose the problem is this forum's lack of activity and sometimes nasty attitudes towards fan speculation.
But that Mariology is certainly the nerdiest Mario forum I've even seen!
