Coming out of semi-retirement to let you guys know about this:

Project Sora, the studio responsible for Kid Icarus: Uprising, has closed its doors. A short message on the studio's website, translated by Andriasang, states that the company was closed on June 30 and that the website will shut down on July 31. Project Sora was started by Masahiro Sakurai, the brains behind Super Smash Bros, back in 2009.

Kid Icarus: Uprising, the only title released by the studio, debuted to reasonably strong sales and critical praise this past March. Sakurai is currently working on the next iteration of Smash Bros for the Wii U and 3DS with Namco. We've reached out to Nintendo for more information on Project Sora's closure.

I guess because Sakurai just couldn't get a team together for the next smash project and Nintendo was all 'get moving bitch, fine we'll get the manpower from Namco, now get to work' and they closed the company so they didn't have to deal with bullshit taxes. Also I'm half drunk and probably talking out of my ass wooaah

Sucks for him but it's not like he wasn't still constantly roped into making Nintendo sequels

So what was the point in creating a company for just one game? Why not just develop it under Sora Ltd.?

Maybe he had to have a more effective team for KI Uprising to make sure they got it right, and to make sure it didn't suck like Brawl's SSE.

TEi, this topic is a bit misleading. Project Sora was a smaller deal between both Nintendo and Sora Ltd. (which is still active), made solely for Kid Icarus Uprising.
