I don't know how many of you guys actually collect games, but after reading a few lists detailing some of the rarest games ever made and seeing some of them sell for extreme amounts made me dig through my collection and realize that I have quite a few myself.
I'm also planning on finding some more classic games, but here's what I've figured out so far.
When people think of rare and expensive SNES games, Chrono Trigger usually comes to mind. However, with so many ports and remakes, the demand has gone down significantly. BUT, this doesn't mean the same for other games. Most stores will still sell used copies of Chrono Trigger for around $60-$80 without realizing that a game like Earthbound can sell for over $200 even if it's in piss-poor condition.
Even PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games are rising in demand. PS2 in particular. When a game sells over a million copies, Sony will mass-produce the game under a "Greatest Hits" label. On PS1, the label was green, while PS2 and PS3 use red labels. Black label versions of these games will sell for large amounts of money since they stopped producing them. Games like Metal Gear Solid 2 and Kingdom Hearts will go for $200-$300 on Ebay if they are new with the black label.
Now, going back to my collection, I happen to own a working cartridge of Conker's Bad Fur Day which due to it' remake censoring all the bits that made it awesome, the N64 cart will go at a minimum of $60 used with no box. The price will only go higher.
I guess what I'm trying to say is DON'T sell your games. Save them for the right time. And also, what games do you guys have that would be considered rare?

Apparently, my N64 collection includes three that are in demand, though not rare, specifically, as according to Amazon, Super Smash Bros., Mario Party 2, and Mario Kart 64. I'm interested to know about Jet Force Gemini, since I'm the only person I know who has ever owned it, online or off, and holy HELL it's fun.

I have no idea if any of my games are worth money, but I keep everything and tend towards games that don't do well at first but end up having cult followings, so maybe. But honestly, I keep everything because I like to keep everything, so even if I have something worth a lot of money it'll probably never affect me. I discovered recently that I have a book of collected Don Rosa Donald Duck comics that's worth £1000 because it almost immediately went out of print. But if I sell it I can't read it again, and the whole reason I bought it was so I could read it whenever I want! Madness!

Don't worry, I never sell ANYTHING. (Okay, I did sell off my NES/SNES when I was younger. Bought everything all over again like a chump a few years back. Getting me another one of them region-free NES' was a bigger pain than I thought) Huh, Earthbound's worth that much? I got me a boxless copy for $50 Other than that I got Skies of Arcadia for the cube, which apparently goes around for $80 minimum too. Never realised it was so rare/obscure I discovered recently that I have a book of collected Don Rosa Donald Duck comics that's worth £1000 because it almost immediately went out of print

Probably don't own anything really rare (compared to the US), but might be kind of rare down here. Once all online Euro import stock of Sin & Punishment 2 is gone, I assume the value of it might go up down here. Got Aus versions of Metroid Prime Triliogy, WarioWare: Twisted* (complete with it's awesome box) and a first print run of Xenoblade Chronicles that came with a bonus CD (exclusive to Australia/NZ). Who know if these versions will be worth anything compared to versions released in Europe. (with the only real difference being the Euro content rating label vs the Australian OFLC content rating label) * Admittly it wasn't released in Europe. Don't own it but TLoZ: Twilight Princess Gamecube version is (outside of Japan) kind of rare and worth playing due to glitches unique to it. GCN version of Pikmin 2 supposedly sells for a good price in the US but has probably gone down because of Wii NPC version. I'm also heard stories of the original JP Sin & Punishment cart price falling in price from $40 to $20 on auction site after the VC release. While I'm never sold a game, I do keep them in good condition, on the grounds that there may be one desperate day when I do have to sell them, which hopefully never happens. I discovered recently that I have a book of collected Don Rosa Donald Duck comics that's worth £1000 because it almost immediately went out of print. But if I sell it I can't read it again, and the whole reason I bought it was so I could read it whenever I want! Madness! Damn . . . Other than that I got Skies of Arcadia for the cube, which apparently goes around for $80 minimum too. Never realised it was so rare/obscure Once saw a guy on a auction site down here try to sell a PAL GC version of the game for $95 . . . Without the box (where the hell did it go?) Someone must have eventually brought it.

I tend to sell things I don't care to replay (if I've beaten it) or didn't like playing, no matter its rarity. To me, I want to hold onto things that I really like, and anything that I don't could fund shopping trips to (hopefully) get more stuff that I do like. I do have some pretty cool stuff in my collection, though. You can peruse it here, although I need to do some updated shots.

I quite like to collect video games too. I had a lot more Nintendo DS games at one point but sold them, but it's interesting as some of the ones I sold I've now bought back. I don't mind keeping a growing collection now, but starting to have trouble with space. I think a number of GameCube games go for high prices nowadays, some I've noticed being the PAL/US Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, PAL/US Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, US Cubivore: Survival of the Fittest and PAL/US Chibi Robo (especially Cubivore and Chibi-Robo). Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver for DS are relatively expensive nowadays for a Nintendo DS game boxed here as well (about £40-50 or possibly more if it comes with the Pokéwalker).
