Have you ever gone through any difficult levels or challenges in some games that you didn't think that you could ever get past? You try and deal with as many times as you can, but you still keep failing. But then there comes that chance that you do clear it.
And even after you completed it, you come back and try it again. But still there's more and more losses piling up. The only reasonable explanation for clearing it may be that "you just got lucky that time".
But on the other hand, maybe there are just some parts in there that you keep messing up on. So try to find out a way to get through those pesky parts then.
And even if you're still not able to clear it, there comes a point in which you feel that it's a waste of time and that you may have to give up...
With that, let's take a look at various examples of such challenges, to name a couple:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Grandmaster Galaxy. The Perfect Run (Daredevil; one hit)
The final mission of the game. Anyone here who has the game, have you cleared it? If so, you can try it again to see how you'll fare once more. It's always the fourth section that does me in.
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Mirror Mode. Reversed levels, no Diddy, no inventory items, one heart of health only.
I cleared quite a lot of stages in this game with that, but there are some that I still can't get past. I've decided to give this one up.
Rhythm Heaven (the whole series)
The Perfect campaigns. Make it through every stage (when the game gives you the opportunity) without missing even once.
I've cleared every stage with Perfect on Rhythm Heaven for DS and RH Fever (Wii), but I'm down to Remix 10 on both. I don't think I could ever complete this.
However, as much as I struggled with the other stages, I just happened to clear them at some point. But then again, maybe I "just got lucky those times"? (I've been going back and trying the other tougher stages again, and still keep messing up frequently)
F-Zero GX
Any Story Mode chapter on Very Hard.
You know what...Fuck this. The ones I did complete? Nah, just got lucky or something.
Pikmin 2
Challenge Mode. Clear stages without losing even one Pikmin.
I managed all this on my GC copy ages ago, but the Wii edition, I'm not bothered enough to try it now. Hmph...
Super Smash Bros. (the whole series)
Any 1P mode on the highest difficulty setting. Very Hard or Intense. No continues and all that jazz.
Sure, it's all about using which character you're best with, but in the long run, do whatever it takes to stay on your toes the whole time and keep an good eye on your opponents and the moves they make.
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Most of the Treasure Hunt challenges. Particularly any that sound difficult just by reading them from the Treasure Hunt grid.
There's a hell of a lot to do in this game, no doubt. But when you dive in and take a look at what you've got to do here, now there's a real challenge. But me? Ehh, I'll pass.
I already cleared all the chapters and got all in-game idols. The game's complete enough for me with that. I still don't have all the weapons and powers either.
Boss Battles mode on Normal or Hard? No thanks. "Easy" was already crazy enough.
Had you had such experiences in your games? You can also add any other difficult challenges/stages from any other games not listed here.
And at the end of the day, it all comes down to this: Different game genres seek to challenge different players with different skill levels. I've seen lots of people taking on the ones I mentioned with ease, so hey, good for them!
