I wasn't sure if this was a good idea or not, but I thought I'd mention it to see what you guys thought.
Maybe you've seen these "game clubs" on other message boards, where, like a book club, a group of people play thru the same game together and discuss it as they go along. Well, I had kind of a different idea. Instead of playing thru the same game, we each pick whatever game we want. The catch, however, is that it has to be a challenging game that we want to get better at. So, we set a goal for ourselves, and spend a month working towards it.
The goal can be as broad as simply beating the game (like finishing Battletoads), or as specific as mastering a single level (like a particular chapter in F-Zero GX's story mode). You can also set further goals for yourself, like beating the game without losing a life.
The basic idea, here, is to dedicate yourself for one month to attempt to become an expert, or at least significantly improved, at whatever goal you set. Hence the name: Project M.A.G.: Master A Game.
Does this sound like something you guys would be interested in?

Not to pour boiling tar on your idea right out the game, but I'll be honest... the Game Club sounds better I've never been interested in mastering games. I like to beat them, but anything after that feels less like getting better at a challenge and more like wasting time. That's why I don't partake in any competitive challenges, whether that's Pokemon or Smash Bros. and so on. I just don't have that kind of free time. Hell, I'm lucky if I have the time to even play the games I own (and keep buying, because I have a problem)... But all deciding to play one game and essentially group-blog about it sounds quite fun. The temptation to Let's Play would be strong

It's OK. I've been sitting on this idea for a while, and I wasn't sure it was really that good of an idea because there isn't a whole lot to tie everyone's experiences together. However, I'm not into the Game Club idea because it requires everyone who wants to participate to have the same game. If they don't, then they're left out, and it's not fair. Project MAG is more inclusive, and that's the point of doing things as a group in the first place. I guess I like "mastering" games on some level because I still have kind of an old school gaming mentality. You know, when you're young and you can't afford to buy all the games you want, you play the heck out of the ones you do have. I still have a compulsion to do that, but it's easier to do with older, shorter (and often harder) games. But still, I thought I'd throw the idea out there because the forum's been so slow lately.

I'll sit this one out. I've been inactive because I've been occupied, which makes me slow at the collab thing, which in turn makes me feel too guilty to participate in anything else here. Lesson of the day: final-year university students should stay away from time-consuming activities. So rather than mastering something, I'm more into tanking through everything
