Apart from the obvious cameo of the name "Game & Wario" being a reference to Game & Watch (even using same font)
While it's not called WarioWare it does feature characters from the WarioWare series.
One of the 16 minigame revealed is "Gamer" where 9-Volt plays microgames on a handheld gaming device in bed and has to watch out for his mother catching playing games after bedtime.
- In his room a Virtual Boy is setting next to his TV. - His microgame "lives" are represent by a Balloon Fighter with four balloons. - One of the microgames is a modiflied version of flyswatter, with a giant swatter.
Footage starts at 10:05

I think 9-Volt is supposed to be using a Wii U Gamepad. The nose picking game also seems to be back once again. EDIT I guess it's not a Gamepad after all.

Ko Takeuchi is loving his Rhythm Heaven cameos. In the opening movie, Wario is flipping through channels and one of the shows features a teen idol, with the choir boys from rhythm heaven as her backup singers. www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=199058

What I don't understand this time is what the hell they did to Mona (among a few others): Most of the other characters still look just the same, so what was the point?

Like any artist, Takeuchi is developing his own art style. You can see from his own website, that his characters are conforming to this style over time. The human characters are easier to notice the change, as can be seen in Young Cricket, Ashley, and others.

Awesome. I've had this game for a few weeks, but I haven't turned the Wii U on yet to play it.
