So, this is happening. Personally, I don't mind because A: I want a 3ds for cheap and 2: I don't really like 3D. So, this is a pretty good deal. Only problem? A lot of people say it's really ugly. I'll let you be the judge of that.

I'm always happy about price cuts. Plus, I thought the 3D was kind of an expensive gimmick that was inflating the 3DS's price anyway.
However, I'm even happier the Wii U price cut. I'm glad to see Nintendo taking an initiative against the impending competition.

Gotta maximize those Pokemon sales This seems a like pretty damn good deal to me as one of the people who never bothers with the 3D feature on the thing. Can't turn that on for longer than 30 seconds, shit gives me a serious headache. That bulky design and not being able to close it is a bit of a downer, but it looks tough enough to survive clumsy kids dropping it down the stairs... which is probably the main demographic for this machine. However, I'm even happier the Wii U price cut. I'm glad to see Nintendo taking an initiative against the impending competition. Woah, really? Where'd you read that?

Apparently the reason you can't close it is because, technically, it doesn't actually have two screen. It's just one big screen simulating two screens divided by the plastic face. Woah, really? Where'd you read that? The news is pretty much all over, but it's not getting as much attention as the 2DS. Here are articles from USGamer and EuroGamer. In short, the Wii U has been reduced to US$299 / £249.99, and will be "bundled" with Wind Waker HD (although it's actually just a digital download). EDIT: And apparently in the US, the bundle is GameStop exclusive. Good thing I wasn't interested in WWHD anyway.

WHAT . . . ? ! I have a bad feeling that this will just result in some more consumer confusion. There are consumers out there who call the original DS the "2DS." But it's seems pretty funny to hear that it's just one screen divided by plastic to make "two screens" Congradulations Nintendo, you just made a dedicated gaming tablet!Oh yeah, while it has all the features (minus steroscopic 3d) it doesn't have stero sound (unless you use the headphone jack). I have to admit, I can't see 3d and I wanted to buy a 3DS but now I feel more conflicted in what to buy. (get 3D features I can't use, but with a more protected clamshell design or a 2D slate with everything exposed . . .) . . . So here's an optional pouch for $12.99

I should not mind this given that I have a 3DS, but... I'm sure I would hesitate to buy a 2DS, even if money is an issue. Then again, even though the original 3DS is cheaper than XL now, its battery life sucks.
And they should totally do an Ambassador program for Wii U.

This is... silly. But then, so are many alternate versions of their consoles. Redesigned Wii, Wii Mini, and I'd say even DOL-101 is this to me.
And look at those buttons. Either they think children who treat their systems roughly have giant hands, or the system has tiny screens. Neither is good for those kids. And no way to close the system doesn't make it any more kid-friendly, who often have to travel with other adults and have to pause their system at any time.
And if you don't like 3D and want to permanently kill it, buy a regular 3DS and force 3D off with parental control.
To me, 3D is an important part of the system and I won't even think about disabling it other than savng battery.
Oh, and Wii U price drop? Does it affect the JP version? I certainly hope so, even though price is not why I don't have a Wii U. Not enough games and mobility issue are why I don't have it, not price.

Gaming console name conventions of the 21st century, by simultaneous availability:
DS DS, DS Lite (same hardware, redesigned) DS, DS Lite, DSi (same hardware, but kind of different, also redesigned) DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL (same hardware, redesigned) DSi, DSi XL, 3DS (new hardware) DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL (same hardware, redesigned) DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS (same hardware, redesigned)
Naming rules: Letters or words added to end of name = same hardware, redesigned Number added to front of console name = new hardware, duh, idiot Unless number added to front of console name is '2', then = same hardware, redesigned, obviously that was a rule, moron, don't you get it?
Wii Wii [2nd version - no gamecube support, displayed horizontally on the box) Wii [2nd version], WiiU (new hardware, horizontal console) Wii [2nd version], WiiU, Wii Mini (old Wii hardware again, redesigned)
Naming rules: Letters added to end of name = new hardware, fuck the DS's rules Unless 'mini' added to end of name = old hardware, redesigned, because fuck it
Playstation Playstation, Playstation 1 (same hardware, redesigned) Playstation 1, Playstation 2 (new hardware)
Naming rules:
Add a '1' to your console = redesign Add a '1' to that previous console's number = new hardware
Xbox > Xbox 360 > Xbox One
Naming rules:
Replace '2' with '360' to avoid a clash versus a '3' console Call sequel to that '360' console, and third console in your family, 'One'
....jesus fucking christ.

Looks like Nintendo is testing the waters before entering the tablet market.
Oh, well... I always keep the 3D turned off on my 3DS via parental controls anyway. I never bought the 3DS for the 3D effect. It was always about the games.
