Has it ever been confirmed what the meaning of the Super Smash Bros. sign is? You know, this thing. What is its deal, exactly? Is it some kind of...unused Nintendo logo? Has Sakurai ever actually talked about it at all? Some say that it's two swords clashing, to emphasize the fighting nature of this series (some instances of it show this). Others say that (for some bizarre reason) it's the sun behind the window frame of the SSB 64 intro with the desk and toys (which doesn't convince me in the least, since when you watch the thing, there's nothing there at all). Sure, the page there says "its exact meaning is unknown", but is there some source from Sakurai that we don't know about that explains it?

The sun behind the window frame theory is pretty believable, I remember a theory that it's just a toy stand akin to the way the trophies are, which I think is also plausible.

I just figured it was a cross to emphasize the whole crossover thing. Pretty sure the Japanese version of Brawl is named 'Great Melee Smash Brothers X' for that very reason.
Why the cross in a circle? Because ~DESIGN~

The heck are you seeing that I'm not? Also, "toy stand"? The thing is formed at the very end of the N64 intro (right before the title appears) with sword slashes. With that, it could also be based upon one of those standard Japanese double sword formations that you see a lot. Something along the...lines of this:
