Holy crap.

So, I was looking for an answer for this thread when I stumbled upon the original Dojo for Super Smash Bros. 64. It's in Japanese, of course, but even a basic Google Translate is enough to get all kinds of cool information. I'll give you an example of the sort of thing I'm talking about: The actual names of character moves (Cpn. Falcon's A-Combo is outright called Mach Punch, and Samus' up-Smash is, surprisingly, called Hellfire,) item facts (apparently the Ray Gun and Beam Sword are programmed to show up more frequently in the Planet Zebes stage, for example, also, Sakurai's explanation of the Home Run Bat amounts to "I wanna say it's from Mother, but there's no item with that name there,") even stuff like background cameos.

So yeah. Go check this out, I guess.

I didn't know they bothered to name the character's A-moves tho, that's pretty cool. I wonder if there's a complete list floating around somewhere. Also is there a way to check out the old US site? I tried fiddling with the wayback machine awhile back without much success. I liked the really goofy character art they had posted there.

I'll take this moment to point out that I once found an official Japanese guide for Melee on eBay once (considered buying it, but didn't) and there was a picture of a page that had a move list on it, and each and every move had a name.

I was unaware there was an old US site. As far as the complete move list for SSB64, I'm currently attempting to translate the list from Japanese to English. I'll say this much: Google Translate is a freakin' gem. I mean, Pikachu's Side-A is called "Both feet diarrhea." Dunno about you, but I'm pretty sure Sakurai wrote "Kick" there, Googz.

Melee guide (I got it at the same time as Melee which was right around its launch, so the guide must have been Prima or something similar) that listed the names for each and every tilt, smash, and combo. It even included names for all of Master and Crazy Hand's attacks (and I believe Giga Bowser's moves had unique names as well).

If it was the Prima guide, then I already know there's a disclaimer in there saying they made the names up themselves. -_-

Fortunately, this thread has inspired me to seek out the official Japanese names for all the moves in Brawl, so I did just that. Once I'm done compiling and translating them, I'll post them here.

I don't know about Prima, but Melee's official Nintendo Power Player's Guide had move names for every character's complete moveset.

I have no idea if they're supposed to be the official names or not, but I can still type up the lists if anyone was interested.

After reading through all those, I'm inclined to believe those are official. Not only are they in Nintendo Power's official guide, many of those seem to be directly translated from the Japanese names I found.

Now I just wonder if Brawl's official guide is equally official...

Several of those are named well in line with the SSB64 Dojo's names. Notably, I notice Link has "Illusion Stab," "Grass Cutter," and "Half-Moon Swipe," and much of Ness' moves in general have similar names to the SSB64 Dojo's. I'd cite it. In fact, reading your list, I get a feeling that the Wiki does.

Upon checking my Prima guide for Brawl, it appears they never bothered to provide an English move list for it. I guess my efforts to translate Brawl's move lists aren't in vain after all.
