And by that, I don't mean the minigames themselves. That'd pretty much be cheating.

If you own both NES Remixes, you unlock a mode called Championship mode that is a pretty big callback to the early 90s Nintendo World Championship tournements, as made legendary by The Wizard. It's an interesting cameo/reference because, as far as I'm aware, Nintendo has never made reference to the competitions in game.

2:58 makes mention of it.

That seems a tad strange that Japan would reference a largely American competition. Unless they also had it in Japan? (You know, being called the "World" Championship and all.)

I'd expect Famicom Remix to have some sort of reference to the blue competition disks (F-Race, 3D Hot Rally, Golf US/Japan Course) before that.
