Earlier, I was thinking on Kid Icarus Uprising. It did a fantastic job of reinventing the franchise. Since revivals and reboots seem to be faring pretty well right now (or are at least in fashion), I thought about what Sega might be able to do with their forgotten platformer, Alex Kidd. It's obviously a really big stretch to think of Alex Kidd being revived by Sega, so the question isn't if he'll be revived, but how he could be brought back. Kid Icarus Uprising didn't simply spring up out of nowhere. Brawl brought Pit back into the spotlight and set the perfect conditions for the series to return. Is there a way for Sega to possibly do the same with Kidd? I guess there might not be much they CAN do, so I'm not expecting a very big discussion, but hey - what loose thoughts or ideas aren't worth sharing?

Well, Alex Kidd was brought out elsewhere. I doubt if there'll be a full game, though.

Sumo Digital's Alex Kidd design is... not so great, IMHO. If Sega were to revive Alex Kidd, I think they would need to start by establishing a strong identity for him. Alex Kidd isn't much of a character on his own, and he's appeared in a smattering of different types of games. Contrast that with Sonic, who is a very strong character design with a specific type of gameplay associated with him. (I tried my own slight redesign of Alex Kidd a couple of months ago, where I Sonic'd him up a little.)

Sega's not gonna revive anything. Seriously.

You mean the Enchanted Castle design? Sumo Digital made the Sonic & All-Stars Racing games, as well as Sega Superstars Tennis, where they made Alex Kidd look like this.

Out of curiosity, exactly how much of my post did you read?

I'm sorry. I don't see anything else you wrote except for what I quoted, plus an image of Alex Kidd and a broken image link.
I mistakenly assumed you were referring to my comment about Sumo Digital's Alex Kidd. Now I'm not sure what you were referring to.

Because I posted the official art for Alex for both Sega Racing and for Enchanted Castle.

They are hardly distinct. Should be easier to see now that it's not a side-by-side of his artworks from Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle and Alex Kidd and the Broken Image. Also, if you prefer the drawing anyways, you might appreciate my Table Mastery. =P

I agree that his current design kind of sucks. Yours seems a little generic though. He should look more monkey-like. Something like Kid Goku (as they both seem to be based on Sun Wukong).

From the hairstyle and clothing design right down to his facial features there isn't a single thing that's identical between them. Even colour-wise, it's all been changed except the basic use of red and yellow.

Even colour-wise, it's all been changed except the basic use of red and yellow. I can grant the hairstyle and facial features are changed. I can accept that. However, I cannot see your point because I am looking at two designs for the outfit which are, in fact, very similar. Yeah, granted. It's not a jumpsuit anymore, it's now a jacket-shirt-pants set. With a belt. But sew it all together, and it's the same outfit. Furthermore, times have changed. Graphics have changed. Alex Kidd isn't going to be a drawing or a sprite anymore, he's going to use a 3D model. His facial features have to adapt. How did they adapt? About as well as can be expected: He still has huge eyes, huge ears, and a generally up-turned nose. Sure, now he has an eye-color. But so does Sonic. People get pissed about Sonic's eye color. And don't even get me started on hair. Donkey Kong has a pompadour now. "Not the same character," I hear you ask? How about when Samus went from this to this? At least Alex's hair is still same length and shape, bangs notwithstanding. Bottom line is this: This design for Alex Kidd, yes, does deviate. I can't deny that. But it is not nearly as far as you're making it out to be.
